    About Mission Bit

    Mission Bit is a San Francisco-based nonprofit that inspires youth of color to explore the world of STEM with project-based computer science education that embraces their identities. We offer a variety of hands-on STEM education programs, including biweekly, semester-long introductory coding courses.

    The role

    The Director of Programs is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategic vision, development, and oversight of Mission Bit’s full program portfolio for high school students and young adults. This leader will ensure the delivery of high-quality, mission-aligned learning experiences across all offerings from in-school programs and after-school courses to career exploration workshops. They will foster a culture of educational excellence, equity, and innovation to meet the evolving needs of our students and communities.

    As a key member of the senior leadership team, the Director of Programs will set strategic priorities, manage program budgets, and guide program leaders to achieve measurable impact and organizational goals. This individual will serve as a thought leader within the educational and youth development communities while also building and scaling systems that support the growth, consistency, and quality of Mission Bit’s programming. This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

    This is a hybrid, full-time role based in San Francisco, CA. In-person work is required at least three times a week, depending on the program schedule. In-person work will include travel to the office and around the Bay Area. You must live in the San Francisco Bay Area to be considered for the role.

    Schedule

    • Monday through Friday, during regular business hours, plus some evenings, weekends, and scheduled events required

    What you’ll be doing

    Strategic leadership & program development

    • Lead the strategic planning and execution of all Mission Bit programs in collaboration with the Education team, ensuring alignment with the organization's mission, values, and long-term goals.
    • Collaborate with the executive team to develop programmatic OKRs and success metrics.
    • Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of program strategies that enhance student outcomes, increase impact, and drive organizational growth.
    • Develop and manage a consolidated program budget, including forecasting and resource allocation across all initiatives.
    • Stay informed on best practices in program design and youth development to ensure programs remain relevant, engaging, and effective.

    Team leadership & management

    • Supervise and support Program Coordinators and other program staff through regular check-ins, coaching, performance evaluations, and ongoing professional development.
    • Foster a collaborative, equity-centered team culture that encourages ownership, innovation, and continuous learning.
    • Lead internal program meetings, workshops, orientations, and cross-functional planning sessions to support team alignment and coordination.
    • Ensure all team members have the tools, guidance, and support needed to meet their goals and contribute meaningfully to the organization’s mission.

    Oversight & quality assurance

    • Oversee all aspects of program operations, including program design, youth recruitment, student enrollment, and class logistics.
    • Implement systems for data collection, impact measurement, and continuous improvement, including reviewing dashboards and generating regular reports for leadership.
    • Ensure program integrity and excellence through robust quality assurance systems and periodic evaluation of student and stakeholder experiences.
    • Administer and maintain Mission Bit’s Salesforce instance to track student data, volunteer participation, and program performance metrics.

    Partnership & stakeholder engagement

    • Cultivate and steward strategic relationships with schools, community-based organizations (CBOs), corporate partners, and other key stakeholders to expand Mission Bit’s reach and resources.
    • Represent Mission Bit externally at community events, panels, and partner meetings to elevate the organization’s visibility and build trust with stakeholders.
    • Collaborate cross-functionally with the Development team to provide program data and outcomes, ensuring deliverables align with fundraising goals and meet funder expectations
    • Serve as a liaison between Programs and other departments (e.g., Marketing, Education) to ensure consistent messaging, cohesive planning, and shared ownership of organizational success.

    General program support

    • Lead Demo Day, Mission Bit’s culminating end-of-semester event, ensuring student projects are showcased effectively and all logistics are executed smoothly.
    • Take initiative on special projects and cross-functional collaborations that support Mission Bit’s strategic priorities.
    • Support internal systems and processes that enhance interdepartmental communication, improve workflow efficiency, and ensure seamless delivery of services.
    • Contribute to organizational initiatives outside of core program areas, bringing a programmatic lens to leadership discussions and decision-making.

    Requirements

    Physical demands & work environment

    • Must be able to lift and transport up to 50 lbs
    • Must be able to assist with the delivery and setup of 30+ laptops or related program materials at multiple school sites
    • Regularly required to sit, stand, and move equipment
    • May require occasional evening or weekend work and local travel throughout the Bay Area

    We’d love to hear from you if you…

    • Have a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
    • Have a minimum of 5+ years of progressive experience in program development and management, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
    • Have demonstrated success in building and scaling youth programs, ideally within a nonprofit or EdTech environment.
    • Have proven ability to lead high-performing teams and drive results through strong project management and collaboration.
    • Have experience managing budgets and aligning program strategy with organizational goals.
    • Have the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and digital tools used across departments
    • Additional requirements:
      • Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license and be eligible to rent and operate vehicles (e.g., U-Hauls) to support program logistics.
      • Must reside in the Bay Area; this is a hybrid role requiring 3 days of in-person work per week.

    • Have some experience with Salesforce
    • Have some coding experience (e.g., basic understanding of HTML/CSS or Python)
    • Are bilingual in Spanish (preferred) or Cantonese
