    Summary

    The Accounting Manager is responsible for the daily accounting operations, as well as monthly financial reporting, and annual budget and audit cycles, in consultation with a fractional CFO. We’re seeking a detail-oriented and mission-aligned accounting professional ready to take the next step in their career. This position offers significant responsibility and visibility in a small, collaborative environment where you’ll be a trusted partner to senior leadership.     Essential Functions

    The Accounting Manager is responsible for:

    Financial Operations & Reporting

    • Manage day to day accounting operations including AP/AR and monthly payroll processing
    • Manage student billing, including financial aid coordination and customer payments
    • Maintain accounting records in accordance with GAAP, and prepare monthly and annual financial statements and reports for management and external agencies and partners (Department of Education, accreditors, grantors,)
    • Manage treasury including daily cash balances, short term cash flow planning, and reporting liquidity impacts on KPIs
    • Oversee month-end and year-end close processes, including CSV imports, accounts and subsystem reconciliations.
    • Administer accounting technology, maintain chart of accounts and segments to ensure accurate coding of transactions

    Audit & Compliance

    • Serve as primary contact with external auditors for financial statement audit, compliance audit, and 990 preparation
    • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation
    • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, including DoE financial aid regulations, and supporting Form 990 preparation,
    • Maintain internal controls and documentation
    • Manage grant accounting and reporting requirements (if applicable)

    Budgeting & Analysis

    • Support annual budgeting process, working with President and department heads
    • Monitor budget-to-actual variances and provide regular reporting
    • Assist with cash flow forecasting and management of DoE composite score and other financial performance metrics
    • Track restricted funds activity

    Strategic Support & Process Improvement

    • Present financial reports to leadership
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements and increased efficiency
    • Manage banking relationships and accounting vendor contracts (Netsuite, Brex, etc.)
    • Support special projects and institutional planning as needed
    • Implement and optimize accounting systems and workflows

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
    • 5-7 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 3 years full general ledger responsibility, with at least 2 years nonprofit accounting experience
    • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial statement preparation including reporting release from restrictions and net assets
    • Experience with full-cycle accounting and month-end close
    • Proficiency in ERP accounting software (Netsuite, or similar) and advanced Excel skills structuring and managing data
    • Payroll experience required, with preference given to Paylocity experience
    • Attention to details and awareness of how precision translates to system interactions. Ability to work in detail, but understand the impact to the whole and work collaboratively with budget managers and leadership
    • Demonstrated ability to work and problem solve in a multi-tasking environment
    • Appreciation for and alignment with The Seattle School mission and Statement of Faith

    Preferred (Not Required – We’ll Help You Develop These):

    • Higher education experience
    • Prior audit coordination experience
    • Experience with grant accounting and compliance
    • Interest in working toward CPA
    • Familiarity with Populi, Thinkific or Asana software a plus

    Compensation & Benefits

    The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology provides a competitive total compensation package (salary, benefits, time off and more), aligned with the Seattle nonprofit market. The pay range for this position is $34.00 – $40.00 per hour). For this full-time position we offer generous paid time off, retirement benefits, a bus pass subsidy, tuition assistance benefits, medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance and a Health Savings Account. We also offer a flexible, supportive environment with colleagues committed to a common mission. Hours and schedule are negotiable, and can be done in a combination of remote and on campus hours.
