    Descrição

    Survivor Justice Center is seeking a Supervising Attorney to lead its Family Law practice. The role is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, personnel, and legal service provision for a 12-person family law team. The successful candidate will have expertise in family law, significant experience supervising attorneys and legal support staff, possess exemplary leadership skills, and have a strong commitment to public interest law and social justice advocacy. Day-to-day responsibilities will include:

    Staff Supervision

    • Supervise attorneys and support staff, ensure case coverage, and oversee case acceptance and closure processes, strategy development and service quality.
    • Provide attorney support and training, including co
    • counseling as needed, and technical assistance to all staff in areas of expertise.
    • Assess and evaluate staff performance and ensure attorneys are complying with Survivor Justice Center policies and procedures.
    • Promote best practices within sphere of responsibility by establishing new protocols and identifying training opportunities for staff.
    • Assist with program administration and promote best practices by identifying and articulating opportunities to enhance case management practices and other areas of service delivery.

    Project Supervision

    • Ensure program deliverables are met, assist with grants and contract reporting, and collaborate with senior management to ensure compliance with program contracts.
    • Assume leadership role among community partners and service providers by providing technical assistance and training in areas of expertise and participating in relevant provider networks.
    • Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including state agencies, the courts, and other providers.

    Client Advocacy

    • Carry a modest caseload and provide legal advice and representation to clients as

    needed.

    • Connect clients to non-legal supportive services as needed.

    Coordination and Representation with Internal & External Stakeholders

    • Work closely with other SJC supervisors and department leads (immigration, intake, community advocate, grants, development, etc.) to coordinate resources, schedules, and collaborate on service delivery and program execution.
    • Represent Survivor Justice Center at professional events such as partner initiatives and events, bar association meetings, fundraising events and professional networking events.
    • Provide technical assistance as needed for pro bono partners representing Survivor Justice Center clients on family law matters.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of ten years’ legal experience with demonstrated expertise and specialized knowledge in family law
    • Demonstrated experience supervising attorneys and other staff in a legal services environment
    • J.D. degree and membership in good standing with the California Bar

    • Commitment to public interest law and prior experience working with survivors of interpersonal violence and/or immigrant populations
    • Ability to work independently and provide guidance and professional development support to junior attorneys
    • Ability to collaborate successfully with people from diverse backgrounds and levels
    • Attention to detail in case management and mastery of SJC operations and systems
    • Strong time management and case management skills (i.e. calendaring, client communication, meeting deadlines)
    • Strong critical thinking, analytical and problem–solving skills

    Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

    • Work will be performed remotely or in an office, at a workstation, and/or in court in person.
    • This position requires concentration on tasks while facing distractions.
    • This position requires attendance at meetings, both remote and in person, in and outside the Center’s office, and requires applicants reside in Southern California.
    • Position requires the ability to work from, and travel between, the Center’s main office at 5301 Whittier Blvd. in East Los Angeles and various Los Angeles Superior Court locations.
    • Work requires use of office equipment including computers, copiers, and phones.

    Benefícios

    This is a full-time, exempt position with an annual salary range of $105,000-$120,000 depending on experience. The Center offers a generous benefits package that includes: a 35-hour work week, unlimited vacation, generous paid sick leave and holiday time, medical, dental, long-term disability, life insurance, employee assistance plan, 403(b) with matching, flexible savings accounts, and supplemental insurance offerings. The Center is an eligible nonprofit employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program.
