    Day One is seeking a dynamic and motivated Community Engagement Coordinator to lead and support community engagement efforts aimed at advancing our mission.Under the supervision of the Project Coordinator, the Community Engagement Coordinator is the lead in outreach to perform project duties in the field for the purpose of tobacco prevention; facilitate and implement policy campaign activities, such as key informant interviews, development of a Midwest Academy Strategy Chart, facilitate a local coalition and provide public testimony; increase positive activities for youth; assist citizens; assist in organizing and establishing neighborhood networks and systems designed to improve the quality of life and neighborhoods. Interact with city and county governments.

    Any combination of education, and/or experience that has provided the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical example of this would be a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in public health, public policy and/or social sciences OR two (2) years full-time experience in the fields of public health, public policy and/or community organizing/advocacy. Knowledge of Pomona and Sierra Madre communities and resources is a plus. Ability to speak Spanish or Madarin/Cantonese is preferred. A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.

    Considerable knowledge of Pomona, Sierra Madre and/or other San Gabriel Valley community issues surrounding quality of life concerns; knowledge of basic community organizational principals and activities; tobacco prevention theories and practices; ability to provide guidance and instruction to co-workers and to effectively lead a small work team; plan, organize and implement neighborhood development activities; establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with city staff, schools, neighborhood and community groups, and service providing agencies; ability to work with and manage a youth group; communicate and work effectively with persons of diverse backgrounds and assist them in using available resources; prepare and present clear concise oral and written reports; assess and comprehend community problems and recommend and implement appropriate courses of action. Training & facilitation abilities are essential.

    Non-Traditional Work Hours

    This position requires working non-traditional hours that may require early mornings, evenings and weekends in order to accommodate youth and family schedules, school district meetings, city council meetings, community events/meetings, and any other convenings that support the completion of project and organizational goals.

    Working Conditions

    • Works both indoor and outdoor in varying temperatures and weather conditions
    • Physical effort Lift and/or Transport equipment up to 50 pounds or more
    • Prolonged periods of standing, bending, sitting, kneeling, walking
    • May on occasion be exposed to loud sounds and distracting noise levels
    • Working conditions and physical demands which relate to the essential functions of the position can vary and change on a daily basis.
