    The American Flood Coalition (AFC) is a nonpartisan group that drives transformational adaptation to higher seas, stronger storms, and more frequent flooding. AFC comprises more than 470 elected officials, local leaders, military groups, and businesses that work together to advance resilient and equitable flood solutions at the local, state, and federal level. As the only organization that focuses on flooding across all levels of government, AFC is uniquely positioned to transform how communities around the country adapt to flooding and sea level rise.

    Position Summary

    We are seeking a strategic and collaborative individual to join our fast-growing organization. This position is within our Operations team, which is responsible for managing finance, people policies and business procedures in support of AFC’s mission, vision, and culture. The Operations Associate will be responsible for budgeting and bookkeeping, supporting recruitment efforts, and coordinating with vendors to advance creative initiatives and ensure smooth business operations.

This is a full-time position located in Washington, D.C., and reporting to our Operations Director.

    Responsibilities

    • ​​Assist the Operations Director in managing day-to-day functions for the organization by responding to and serving as the primary contact for staff on HR policies, benefits, payroll, PTO usage, and other operational needs.
    • Support internal communications, such as updating and implementing new policies and procedures.
    • Primary contact for the organization’s external operations vendors, including managed IT, recruiting, and finance.
    • Support the planning and execution of staff retreats, team social events, and board meetings, including booking locations and/or coordinating staff travel, room setup, audio/visual, and food and beverage selection.
    • Work closely with the Operations Director to ensure general compliance needs are met across the organization.
    • Provide day-to-day HR generalist support on recruitment and selection, onboarding and offboarding, benefits, and payroll, as well as other needs.
    • Serve as the primary billing point of contact to communicate with external vendors, and track vendor contracts and payments.
    • Oversee office operations, including managing office supplies and tracking and reporting office operations expenses.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • At least 4 years of experience supporting both operations and human resources for an organization; experience at a nonprofit is strongly preferred
    • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel required
    • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including talent acquisition, compensation practices, employee relations, payroll, and benefits
    • Strong non-profit accounting skills (bookkeeping, expense reconciliation, AP/AR management, etc)
    • Strong customer service experience
    • Demonstrated ability to balance functionality with innovation when shaping policies and streamlining processes
    • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated professional, with outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
    • Bachelor’s degree required

    Benefits

    • Salary range for the Operations Associate: $65,000-75,000
