    Descrição

    Brady has one powerful mission — to unite all Americans against gun violence.

    Each year, 40,000 people in the U.S. die from gun violence. We can change that. No organization has a more comprehensive and systematic approach to ending America’s gun violence epidemic. They say it can't be done. But we know Americans can do anything. Even end this epidemic of gun violence. For we are more powerful than any problem when we work as one. Now is the time to unite people, from coast to coast, young and old, liberal and conservative, fed up and fired up, and free our country from what is killing us. It's in our hands.

    Job Summary:

    Brady seeks a thoughtful, motivated, and passionate individual to fill a State Policy Manager position on the organization’s legislative team. This is a unique opening to serve with one of the nation’s oldest and most effective gun violence prevention organizations and work towards positive public policy outcomes and help end the epidemic of gun violence.

    The State Policy Manager will serve with Brady’s State Policy team and will be responsible for helping to execute Brady’s state legislative strategy by interfacing directly with legislators in state capitols across the country, coordinating with Brady’s extensive network of grassroots advocates and survivors, and collaborating with partner organizations.

    This position is full-time and may be remote depending on your location. The position will require a flexible schedule, including a willingness to travel approximately 25% and the ability to work evening and weekend hours, as needed on occasion. Travel will be required for meetings with legislative staff, related events, and conferences.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Work in coordination with Brady’s state legislative team to manage Brady’s state legislative advocacy efforts in priority states across the country;
    • Communicate directly and foster relationships with state legislators, staffers, agencies, and other elected officials;
    • Track and analyze state legislation affecting gun violence prevention and intersectional policy areas;
    • Develop and assist in coordinating testimony, letters, reports, talking points, and other materials as needed to support the work of the team;
    • Analyze policy through the lens of equity and inclusion and ways that gun violence disproportionately impacts specific communities (eg. Communities of Color, those living with mental illness, veterans, survivors of domestic violence, etc.)
    • In collaboration with the Organizing department, support Brady’s extensive grassroots network through trainings and regular communication to prepare for advocacy efforts, lobby days, and testimony;
    • Coordinate with Brady’s Communications and Organizing teams to launch action alerts, engage press, and increase social media presence on Brady policy priorities;
    • Engage and collaborate with partner organizations on shared advocacy goals by actively participating in and contributing to coalitions and networks of activists;
    • Manage and support the growth of interns; and
    • Represent Brady’s mission at press avails, conferences, legislative briefings, and other public-facing opportunities.

    Qualifications and Skills:

    • Minimum of three years of relevant experience in local, state, or national policy advocacy, think tank, campaign, or similar background;
    • Excellent responsiveness, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment;
    • Experience and confidence in reading, analyzing, and interpreting legislative policy;
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, and strong emotional intelligence;
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively through creating partnerships and building authentic relationships to advance policy objectives;
    • The ability to manage projects, including time management and quick problem-solving while maintaining a positive attitude;
    • A strong commitment to advancing racial and social equity and centering communities of color through intersectional work;
    • A collaborative and inclusive approach to work, both at Brady and amongst grassroots and external partners; and
    • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the root causes of gun violence and its intersections amongst racial, social, and economic justice issues.
