    Summary/Objective

    The Community Organizer will lead on-the-ground organizing within LGBTQ+, immigrant, and HIV-impacted communities to build leadership, reduce stigma, and advance local priorities. This role centers on base building, mobilizing community members, facilitating workshops, organizing events, and coordinating advocacy with stakeholders and elected officials. The ideal candidate is bilingual in English and Haitian Creole, Spanish, or Portuguese, with proven experience in community or labor organizing, strong facilitation skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively, including evenings and weekends as needed.

    Essential Functions and Tasks:

    • Identify and recruit impacted individuals around the LGBTQ+, immigrant, and HIV-affected communities
    • Conduct face-to-face meetings with community members
    • Prepare spaces for community engagement and input
    • Organize neighborhood meetings, events, and town halls
    • Facilitate leadership development efforts for activists and organizations
    • Deliver and prepare skills and educational workshops on HIV prevention, testing, and stigma reduction
    • Identify community priorities and mobilize community members to participate in collective solutions
    • Prepare and set up meetings with elected officials and community stakeholders to advance local community priorities
    • Collaborate closely with internal staff and external partners to align outreach and organizing strategies
    • Maintain documentation of activities, meetings, and outcomes for reporting purposes
    • May be asked to support or collaborate on projects across other departments as needed.

    Qualifications: (knowledge and skills)

    • At least 2 years of on-the-ground community, political, or labor organizing experience (volunteer work in these areas can count)
    • Demonstrated skills in fieldwork, base building, mobilizing, and campaigning
    • Strong knowledge of HIV prevention, testing, and stigma-reduction best practices
    • Must have reliable transportation, a driver’s license, and car insurance
    • Ability to create structured work plans and meet deadlines
    • Strong facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills
    • Multicultural competence and sensitivity, especially in working with HIV-impacted populations, LGBTQ+, immigrant, and youth populations.

    Preferred Skills/Abilities:

    • Bilingual English and Haitian Creole, Spanish, or Portuguese
    • Experience working with immigrant, LGBTQ+, and/or HIV-impacted populations
    • Familiarity with Central Florida’s community landscape and stakeholders
    • Previous experience working in nonprofit or advocacy settings

    Remote Work Requirements

    • Must be able to work remotely during emergency situations.
    • Self-motivated and focused on work over distractions of home.
    • Responsibility of setting up and maintaining workspace.

    Schedule

    • Generally, Monday to Friday 12:00pm-8:00pm with regular weekend and morning hours required to accommodate working community members’ schedules. 40 hours/week.

    Salary

    • $40,000 – $44,081 annually
