    Apply by January 14

Pay: This position has an hourly rate of $23/hour for 20 hours per week (~$23,920 annually). This rate is anticipated to increase as our org budget does. We offer unlimited PTO, with a required minimum of three weeks taken per year. We do not offer any more benefits at this time. We anticipate adding other benefits such as health insurance and retirement by mid 2026. Please note the rate is not negotiable.

Start Date: This is a full time, one year (with the possibility of extension depending on fit and budget). We anticipate a start date of April 13.

Location Requirements and Preferences: This role is required to reside in Washington State. Washington Youth Alliance is proud to call ourselves a truly statewide organization, and as such prioritizes hiring individuals who are rooted in community and can bring their experiences to our youth-led organization. We are prioritizing applications from the following geographies, although all are welcome to apply: Central Washington, North Central Washington, and the Olympic Peninsula.

    Washington Youth Alliance Overview:

We are Washington’s only truly youth-led 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and State PAC that builds authentic statewide youth power by transforming young people's stories and lived experiences into action, creating youth-led chapters that educate, advocate, and organize for mental health support, gun violence prevention, access to a healthier democracy, and other systemic changes young people need.

We envision a world where Washington is designed to serve the needs of and address problems specific to young people, and where young people are equipped with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to shape systems so it continues to address issues that impact young people.

What do we define as youth-led?

We define youth-led as having young people ages 13-24, but particularly those not in College, at the center of everything we are doing and hope to do. Our boards are 85% under the age of 24 with 33.3% being under the age of 18 and from local chapters.

The Communications Coordinator will own WYA's visual and digital identity, ensuring our communications reflect the energy, authenticity, and youth-led spirit of our movement. They will manage graphic design, website maintenance, and support fundraising communications in partnership with the Development Manager. The Communications Manager will also co-supervise WYA's communications youth coordinators alongside the Program Director, ensuring young people remain at the center of our storytelling.

    Position Responsibilities:

    1) Graphic Design & Visual Identity:

    • Create graphics & copy for social media, email campaigns, events, and advocacy materials
    • Develop and maintain WYA's visual brand standards across all platforms and entities (c3, c4, PAC)
    • Design print materials including flyers, one-pagers, reports, and event collateral
    • Create templates and toolkits for chapters and youth coordinators to use

    2) Website Development & Management:

    • Maintain and update WYA's website(s) across all entities
    • Build new pages and features as organizational needs evolve
    • Ensure website content is current, accessible, and aligned with campaigns
    • Optimize user experience and mobile responsiveness

    3) Fundraising Communications Support:

    • Partner with the Development Manager to write compelling copy for email and SMS campaigns
    • Create fundraising collateral including appeal letters, donor reports, and event materials
    • Design graphics for digital fundraising campaigns and giving pages
    • Support end-of-year and campaign-specific fundraising pushes

    4) Youth Coordinators:

    • Co-supervise communications youth coordinators alongside the Program Director
    • Provide creative direction and feedback on youth-generated content
    • Train youth coordinators in design tools, social media best practices, and brand standards
    • Ensure youth remain central to WYA's communications strategy

Please note that this is meant to be a sample of position responsibilities and is not fully encompassing. Washington Youth Alliance reserves the right to modify these responsibilities at any time.

Position Requirements: No specific degree is required. In general, candidates will:

    1. Have at least 1 year of (paid or unpaid) experience in graphic design, communications, or a related field
    2. Have proficiency in design software (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or equivalent)
    3. Have experience building and maintaining websites (WordPress, Squarespace, or similar platforms)
    4. Have strong written communication skills for donor-facing and public content
    5. Have the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines independently

Preference will be given to candidates who:

    • Have experience working with young people in an organizing or advocacy setting
    • Are bilingual in Spanish
    • Have familiarity with email marketing platforms (EveryAction, Mailchimp, or similar)
    • Have experience with social media management and content strategy
    • Are from communities across Washington who are not usually represented in organizing, especially youth organizing

Note: We encourage people that don't think they meet all the requirements to still apply - we value lived experience, passion for youth organizing, and commitment to our mission as much as formal qualifications.
