Position Summary
The Part-time controller is a remote independent contractor who will lead the month end close process to ensure timely, accurate financial reports and statements that comply with applicable accounting standards and regulations. They will also partner with the Director of Operations to provide financial insight, identify opportunities for process improvement, and support sound decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Reconcile bank and credit card accounts accurately and on schedule.
- Prepare and post adjusting journal entries as needed.
- Generate timely financial statements, reports, and supporting schedules pursuant to templates developed by Director of Operations.
- Review general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper classification.
- Support the audit process by preparing documentation, responding to requests, and coordinating with external auditors as needed.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and general ledger management.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, accounting systems, Excel, and financial modeling tools.
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement internal controls, policies, and process improvements.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Clear, professional communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information effectively.
- 10+ years of experience required in a controller, fractional controller, or senior accounting role.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance required; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Experience working with small to mid-sized nonprofit organizations preferred.
Time Commitment and Compensation
- Up to 20 hours per month with flexible scheduling to accommodate other commitments
- Must have flexibility to meet once per week virtually with the Director of Operations between 9am-5pm Monday through Friday.
- Compensation range is between $75-85 per hour, commensurate with experience.
