Position

The Shalom Hartman Institute of North America (SHI NA) has an exciting opportunity for a motivated, organized, thoughtful, and detail-oriented individual to work with our program team to ensure programmatic excellence and support our growing presence in Washington, DC. Based in DC, this position requires someone who has strong communication skills, excellent organizational ability, and who is reliable, exceptionally strong in taking initiative and following through, and a quick learner with sound judgment. This person will need to juggle program logistics, outreach, and relationship management seamlessly. The ideal candidate for this position will also have an understanding of and commitment to SHI’s mission. The person in this role will report to our Executive Director, Center for Judaism and Public Policy, will work closely with the Director of Boston and DC, and will join and play an important role on our national program team.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Supporting program logistics for in-person seminars, salons, and other events – including writing and sending invitations, tracking attendance, managing catering, preparing program materials, and setting up/cleaning up for events;
• Supporting the development of programmatic content through preparing materials for programs in coordination with SHI scholars and leadership;
• Serving as primary liaison with external vendors and venues, ensuring strong partnership and smooth execution of SHI events;
• Coordinating travel and itineraries for visiting faculty;
• Supporting with contracting, scheduling and other operational needs of the Washington office;
• Maintaining an accurate record of program and participant data;
• Supporting the design and execution of program evaluations, including collection of feedback and data analysis;
• Providing general administrative support, including calendar management, correspondence, and project support, as needed.

Qualifications

• 35 years of professional experience
• in program coordination, administrative support, and/or nonprofit/event management
• Strong existing relationships within the Jewish community in DC, VA, MD area, or the ability and enthusiasm to quickly build those relationships
• Able to work independently and “manage up” effectively
• Team player who is excited to be part of a global organization
• Passion for SHI NA’s mission
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to craft polished correspondence and event materials
• Proven ability to thrive in a dynamic, high-energy environment and under tight deadlines
• Basic proficiency with Hebrew preferred (not required)
• Excellent interpersonal skills including a professional, customer-service oriented demeanor
• Track record of demonstrating sound judgment by making appropriate decisions and knowing when to take initiative in identifying problems and devising solutions
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
• Basic familiarity with CRM systems, social media, and Zoom call setup
• Good sense of humor and positive attitude
• Ability to staff occasional evening program and weekend programs, and to travel a few times per year
• BA/BS or equivalent

Salary and Benefits: Salary range $60,000 - $65,000, commensurate with experience. Competitive benefits package.
