    Position Title: Policy and Content Writing Assistant or Associate

    Reports to: Vice President and Chief of Staff

    Start Date: Immediately

    Status: Full Time, Non-Exempt

    Location: Washington DC, (Hybrid) - 4 days a week in the office

    J Street is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Policy and Content Writing Assistant or Associate to join our Communications and Policy teams. This entry-level role is ideal for a strong, versatile writer with a passion for advancing pro-Israel, pro-peace, pro-democracy values and a deep interest in Middle East policy and political advocacy. The assistant will help craft a broad range of public-facing and internal materials—including policy explainers, press statements, email campaigns, and issue briefs—that shape how J Street communicates with policymakers, the media, and our supporters.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    • Draft, edit, and proof compelling written content, including:
      • Public statements, press releases, and talking points
      • Email communications to supporters and stakeholders
      • Issue briefs, policy explainers, and backgrounders
      • Website and social media content as needed
    • Conduct background research to support content development, ensuring accuracy and clarity in all written materials
    • Collaborate closely with Policy and Government Affairs staff to translate complex issues into accessible, persuasive messaging
    • Support the maintenance of J Street’s message consistency across platforms
    • Assist with rapid-response communications needs and time-sensitive writing projects
    • Help track and compile press coverage for assistance in implementation of the daily news roundup and to monitor relevant policy developments
    • General support to the Communications and Policy teams on webinar production, website maintenance, and digital content production and distribution

    Required Skills/Qualifications

    • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines under pressure
    • Ability to work collaboratively across the organization
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Familiarity with J Street’s issues, particularly US foreign policy on the Middle East, the US-Israel relationship, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and American Jewish communal affairs

    Preferred Skills and Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in political science, international relations, journalism, communications, or related field
    • Prior internship or work experience in political communications, advocacy, journalism, or a related field is a bonus
    • Familiarity with databases such as Salesforce and ActionKit or similar

    The salary range for this full-time non-exempt position is $55,000-$60,000. Per J Street's Collective Bargaining Agreement, pay and title are commensurate with experience and according to pay bands outlined in our CBA.

    J Street recognizes a staff bargaining unit affiliated with IFPTE Local 70, a union for non-profit workers. This position is included in J Street’s bargaining unit and is covered under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
