    Job description:

    This position supports the national scaling efforts of Echelon; a strategy for The Salvation Army to engage the Millennial and Gen Z demographics by creating emerging professional auxiliary groups.

    JOB SUMMARY:

    The Echelon Manager plays a pivotal role in the strategic growth, effectiveness, and national coordination of The Salvation Army’s emerging professional program (Echelon). This position is responsible for strengthening and expanding Echelon chapters nationwide; facilitating leadership development within the Echelon Leadership Council (ELC); strengthening engagement between local chapters, territories, and National Headquarters; and providing project management for Echelon initiatives.

    The Echelon Manager oversees the strategic direction of the Echelon program which includes national communications, resources, reporting, and collaboration mechanisms that ensure chapter engagement, alignment with National Advisory Board priorities, and measurable growth. This role also manages logistics for Echelon-related meetings, events, and learning opportunities and serves as NHQ’s primary point of contact for all Echelon chapters.

    Strategic Growth & Chapter Support

    • Provides consultative support to developing and established Echelon chapters, offering guidance, troubleshooting, and strategic recommendations for growth and sustainability.
    • Conducts outreach to emerging chapters to facilitate launches and increase local engagement.
    • Travels to Echelon chapters as needed to provide training, facilitation and strategic support.
    • Develops resources, toolkits, and best-practice materials to strengthen chapter consistency and effectiveness.

    Leadership Council (ELC) Support & Governance

    • Works collaboratively with the ELC Chair to set priorities and ensure NHQ priorities and perspectives are woven through the ELC work.
    • Attends all scheduled Echelon Leaders Council meetings, ensuring NHQ alignment and providing administrative and strategic support.
    • Coordinates logistics for ELC meetings, including virtual meetings and those held during National Advisory Board meetings (January, April, September). Takes minutes and ensures follow-up in partnership with the ELC Chair.
    • Plans regular meetings with the OPMD to discuss progress, challenges and needs.

    National Coordination and Communication

    • Facilitates quarterly Echelon Territorial Roundtable meetings.
    • Serves as the national liaison between NHQ, territories, and individual chapters for communication flow and alignment.
    • Develops and disseminates regular communications – including updates, guidance and resources – to chapter leaders and territorial staff.
    • Coordinates national Echelon content and presence in TSA national events, platforms and initiatives.
    • Monitors and creates communications through the Echelon social media platforms.
    • Provides content for the Echelon website.
    • Manages the Echelon email inbox.

    Reporting & Data Management

    • In partnership with the ELC Chair, produces quarterly progress reports for National Leadership and the National Advisory Board.
    • Provides quarterly updates on chapter status, growth barriers, and recommended interventions.
    • Manages ongoing data tracking and analysis related to chapter growth, engagement, and national impact.
    • Monitors the approved Echelon budget.
    • Manages the national Echelon database

    Events, Training and Learning

    • Develops and, as appropriate, conducts Echelon trainings and workshops, potentially for the LEAD learning platform.
    • Ensures appropriate Echelon programming at national conferences, including Better Together, and territorial programs as invited.
    • Leads the planning and coordination of the National Echelon Leaders Symposium.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelors degree and at least 5 years’ professional experience in a nonprofit setting.

    or

    • an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
    • Experience as a staff liaison for volunteer-led groups or emerging professional networks preferred

    LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

    Valid U.S. Driver’s License.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Working knowledge of nonprofit volunteer engagement, governance structures, and emerging professional leadership development.
    • Strong project management, facilitation, and relationship building skills.
    • Working knowledge of Office 365 applications with the ability to learn and become proficient in other specific computer software as needed.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Ability to create and deliver training for adult learners.
    • Ability to build and maintain effective and professional relationships with Salvation Army Officers, staff, volunteers, and young adult professionals across the country.

    MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

    • Ability to plan, prioritize and multitask.
    • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
    • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language fluently.
    • Ability to work with others as part of a team.
    • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail with breaks in concentration associated with answering phones or responding to inquiries.
    • Duties are usually performed seated with occasional standing or walking.
    • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
