    for potential career pathways. Through mentorship, the next generation of artists and leaders gain

    confidence in their own abilities. AFH also supports teens with 1:1 tutoring, professional development and

    college/career readiness so they make a positive impact on their communities and the world.

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Finance Director, Part Time, 24 hours/week

    Salary: $72,000 to $84,000

    Schedule: Flexible 10-6pm 3 days a week, aiming for April or May start date

    Location: 100 West 2nd Street Boston, MA 02127

    Reporting to Patrice Maye, the Artist for Humanity’s Finance Director is a senior leadership role

    responsible for the organization’s financial health, strategic planning, and compliance. This role acts

    as a key thought partner to the Executive Director and Board, ensuring that fiscal resources directly

    support the organization's mission.

    Job Summary

    The Finance Director oversees all financial activities, including accounting, financial operations, cash

    management, bank and vendor relationships, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, compliance and

    audit and tax preparation.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Financial Accounting: Oversee accounting function ensuring timely and accurate monthly closes

    in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Ensure adequate

    supporting schedules and records are maintained.

    • Strategic Financial Leadership: Oversee development of annual budget based upon business

    plan and collaboration with appropriate responsible individuals. Oversee preparation of quarterly

    forecasts to update the budget with YTD actuals and changed assumptions and plans. Prepare

    long-term financial plans and potential expansion plans, as needed.

    • Financial Reporting & Analysis: Oversee preparation of timely and accurate monthly, quarterly,

    and annual financial statements for senior leadership, Finance Committee and the Board of

    Directors. Financial statements to be compared to plans (budgets and forecasts) with informative

    commentary for variances. Develop and oversee financial analysis of meaningful and actionable

    metrics for management.

    • Revenue Recognition: Oversee the tracking and reporting of restricted and unrestricted funds, ensuring compliance with donor and government grant requirements. Ensure all revenue types are accurately recognized in compliance with GAAP.
    • Compliance & Risk: Manage the annual audit and tax return process (IRS Form 990). Develop and

    manage compliance calendar ensuring completeness and adherence to regulatory requirements.

    • Cash Flow & Treasury: Monitor cash flow requirements and manage banking and investment

    relationships to maintain adequate liquidity. Work closely with the Executive Director to ensure

    adequate cash flow to support business operations.

    • Team Management: Supervise and mentor finance staff of 3 (Accounting Manager, Financial

    Analyst and P-T Staff Accountant), fostering a culture of high performance and continuous

    improvement.

    • Financial Operations: Oversee all financial operations of the company including payroll (ADP),

    Accounts Receivable and collections, Accounts Payable.

    • Policies and Procedures (P&P): Evaluate current P&P ensuring they are complete and provide

    adequate internal controls. Recommend improvements and ensure all P&P are documented.

    Qualifications & Skills

    • Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required; an MBA or CPA is highly preferred.

    Experience with Nonprofit Accounting preferred.

    • Experience: 10 plus years of progressive financial leadership, ideally within a grant-funded

    nonprofit environment. Demonstrated accounting, analytical and reporting skills, proven

    adeptness at detail work, as well as the portrayal of clear and concise summary-level work.

    Proven experience in all key responsibilities listed above.

    • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to translate complex

    financial data into succinct and actionable insights for non-financial stakeholders.

    • Mission Alignment: A commitment to Artist for Humanities mission. A demonstrated

    interest/engagement in the nonprofit sector.

    • Deadlines: Demonstrated experience managing competing priorities and deadlines successfully.
    • Software Proficiency: Direct experience with accounting systems (QuickBooks Online preferred),

    bill.com and Salesforce (a plus) along with advanced Excel skills.

    • Collaborator: Diplomatic, patient, curious manner with an enthusiastic sense of humor.
    • Work Schedule: Ability to manage time so average work schedule is 60%, adjusting for ebbs and

    flows of responsibilities.
