    ABOUT US

Congregation Rodeph Sholom (CRS) is a large dynamic Reform synagogue at the heart of Manhattan’s Upper West Side and has a strong 183-year history. We are a community for all who enter our doors and our members represent the vibrant diversity of New York’s Jewish landscape. Multi-generational families, millennials, interfaith families, lifelong New Yorkers, those new to the city, folks pursuing conversion and those exploring Judaism for the first time have all found a home at CRS. This position reports to our Senior Cantor.

    ABOUT YOU

As Communal Responsibility Manager, you will be a motivated and experienced social and community service manager who will oversee and coordinate the activities of our social justice programs and communal responsibility efforts. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that our social action programs focus on the issues and needs within and beyond the congregation. It is imperative to have a deep well of patience and empathy for those we are working with and those we are serving, as well as the ability to work with diverse populations and cultures. This position will be working in partnership with professional and lay leadership to ensure our efforts are driven by shared Jewish ethics with a focus on pragmatism, empowerment, pluralism, and efficacy.

All our team members must be flexible and able to adapt to short- and long-term shifts in their job duties. Working hours are generally 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (4:00 PM on Fridays); additional hours will be required on evenings and weekends based around special programs and events.

    • Serve as primary point person and liaison on social responsibility initiatives, including advocacy, for lay leadership, staff, and clergy.
    • Work with community members, leaders, and other stakeholders to identify the needs and gaps in services and develop strategies to address them.

    • Provide day-to-day logistical and program support for social action events and projects.
    • Partner with Membership team to engage, and recruit, and ultimately train, new and returning volunteers for all social action initiatives and foster a sense of fellowship and belonging.
    • Manage budgets, invoices, and tracking for all programs and events.
