    About the Organization

    Founded in 1972, the Chinese Progressive Association (CPA) educates, empowers, and organizes the Chinese immigrant community in San Francisco to build collective power to win better living and working conditions, and justice for all people. Our core strategies are civic engagement, leadership development, policy advocacy, alliance and movement building, and narrative intervention.

    Position Overview

    The Development Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day execution of fundraising activities and programming. This position reports directly to the Executive Director and supervises the Development Coordinator.

    Responsibilities

    The following responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed.     Institutional Fundraising (75%)

    • Grant Management including, but not limited to: managing the grants calendar, and ensuring timely submission of proposals and reports.
    • Draft funding proposals, concept papers, and reports and manage the process for review and content approval with efficiency and accuracy.
    • Conduct prospect research and support the Executive Director through fundraising moves management to cultivate and steward a portfolio of prospective and active foundation and government funders.
    • Collaborate with the Executive Director to manage relationships with lapsed, active, and new and prospective funders.
    • Collaborate with teams across the organization, including Programs, Communications, Finance, and Compliance, to collect and provide information, communicate deadlines, and develop and align messaging to funders and donors.
    • Oversee government contracts management systems and support the Development Coordinator to ensure timely and accurate reporting and billing.
    • Interpret and communicate compliance requirements of grants and contracts to relevant stakeholders including program staff and leadership.
    • In collaboration with the Executive Director and leadership team, develop annual benchmarks and fundraising priorities to execute and manage.
    • With support from Development Coordinator, prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual fundraising analysis and reports to share with Executive Director and Leadership on fundraising progress.

    Grassroots Fundraising (15%)

    • Manage the development and implementation of grassroots fundraising campaigns and donor engagement programs with the Development Coordinator.
    • Organize and lead organizational fundraising events, working with vendors and other stakeholders to ensure sponsors, donors and supporters have meaningful engagement with CPA and accomplish fundraising goals.
    • In partnership with the Development Coordinator, regularly coordinate and facilitate grassroots fundraising trainings with staff, board and volunteers to foster a shared fundraising culture across the organization.
    • In collaboration with the Communications Team, oversee the development and implementation of narrative and moves management strategies to grow the donor base.

    Supervision & Team Development (10%)

    • Supervise the Development Coordinator, including coaching, mentoring, and training.
    • Supervise and manage project staff and volunteers as needed on cross-team or organizational-wide projects.
    • Support the development of team culture and practices.
    • Support the development of CPA’s fundraising culture.

    Required Qualifications

    • At least 3-4 years of demonstrated experience with foundation fundraising, relationship management, and grants management
    • At least 2-3 years of grassroots fundraising experience
    • At least 1-2 years experience or working knowledge of government contracts
    • At least 1-2 years experience supervising staff or volunteers
    • A commitment to social, economic and environmental justice, bottom-up social change and building social movements
    • A deep belief in the power of grassroots fundraising and funder organizing as an essential strategy for resource mobilization
    • Strong project management skills to oversee development systems and workflows on fundraising execution. Ability to facilitate internal and external processes and support others in understanding the roles and impact of resource development and mobilization
    • Ability to manage up to the Executive Director for successful engagement and relationship management with a diverse set of stakeholders including funders, individual donors, and grassroots community members
    • Strong writing and editing skills, and ability to communicate CPA’s work and mission to diverse audiences
    • Strong proficiency in database, desktop publishing and website content management programs. Familiarity with CRM, Google Workspace and Project Management Tools ( Asana)

    Work Environment / Physical Demands

    • This position will work out of CPA’s office in San Francisco; hybrid work schedule of 3 days in-person / 2 days work from home.
    • Able to work on a computer, including sitting at a desk, for extended periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation.
    • Manual dexterity to operate a keyboard.
    • Able to see or read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids
    • Able to speak clearly and in audible tones on the phone and in-person and be understood by others.
    • Able to hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone.
    • Able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
    • Able to occasionally lift objects weighing up to 10 pounds.

    Employment Terms

    This position is 40 hours per week. This is an exempt position with an estimated annual salary range of $76,300-$98,100.
