651 ARTS' mission is to deepen awareness of and appreciation for contemporary performing arts and culture of the African Diaspora, and to provide professional and creative opportunities for artists of African descent. Through developing and presenting culturally resonant dance, theater, music, and humanities programs in Brooklyn over the past three decades, 651 ARTS has worked with over 800 artists and ensembles of the Diaspora—from Cuba to Trinidad, Senegal to South Africa, Brooklyn to Brazil and back—on more than 500 projects.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Reports To: Marketing & Communications Manager
Status: Non-Exempt, Part-time Regular (20 hours per week)
Summary: The Social Media Manager’s key role is to execute the organization’s marketing and communications plans via social media channels in alignment with its mission, vision and values. They will be responsible for cohesion in messaging and maintaining the organization’s brand identity across the organizations digital channels.
Location: In-person at Brooklyn office, flexible schedule as assigned, with regular evenings and weekends.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
General Marketing & Communications
- Collaborate with Marketing Manager and other stakeholders to execute marketing and communications strategies to promote organization programs and events and increase brand recognition and integrity.
- Create and manage digital executions – across email, website, and social media – of programming, fundraising, and engagement campaigns throughout the year.
- Produce all e-mail campaigns, soliciting content from internal sources, and manage review, testing, and sending.
- Write and edit copy for digital marketing efforts, including monthly e-newsletter and executive leadership communications.
- Attend various events in support of marketing and communications.
- Serve as an advocate for the organization before stakeholders, partners, and the general public.
Social Media Management
- Lead content creation and manage all aspects of the organization’s social media presence (website, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, TikTok, etc.)
- Drive strategy to increase awareness for key programming and increase daily engagement on organization’s social media accounts.
- Manage social ad campaigns and other promotions, track and share results for continuous improvement to targeting and segmentation.
- Promote new content, key pages, and calls-to-action across channels. Position content to target different segments and to fit the format and publishing requirements of each platform.
Social Media Video Strategy and Production
- Conceive, shoot, and edit high-quality social-first content across platforms, from quick turnaround social cuts to larger-scale storytelling campaigns.
- Capture content at events, programs, and community moments.
- Enable evergreen storytelling and partnership opportunities.
- Identify and experiment with emerging trends, formats, and storytelling approaches, adapting them to fit our voice and mission.
- Translate institutional priorities into clear content narratives and editorial direction.
- Manage the entire production process from pre-production through post-production and distribution.
Project Management and Coordination
- Collaborate with the Marketing Manager to align the communications editorial calendar and identify content opportunities based on institutional goals, programming priorities, and cultural moments.
- Coordinate production of digital collateral, working with external vendors as needed.
- Maintain organized marketing assets, templates, and brand resources in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Manage digital asset library in coordination with other stakeholders.
- Supervise consultants when applicable.
Data & Analytics
- Monitor, report and present on online engagement analytics (web, email, social media).
- Identify and leverage key engagement metrics across platforms to optimize content, messaging, and distribution.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in social media communications and/or marketing, preferably in a non-profit, arts based, cultural organization.
- Demonstrable experience executing successful multi-platform social marketing campaigns using static and moving imagery, from capture to distribution.
- Bachelor’s degree or comparable experience in a related field, such as Marketing or Strategic Communications.
Skills
- Strong communicator with excellent written, presentation, and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Possess strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while simultaneously managing deadlines.
- Proven results in managing social media platforms and analytics technologies.
- Demonstrated experience with visual storytelling.
- Comfortable working in a highly collaborative environment – able to initiate ideas and open to constructive input.
- Creative and strategic thinker with good judgment and ability to make independent decisions.
- Ability to work well with the public and comfortable working with people of diverse backgrounds.
- Dependable and punctual.
- Familiarity with CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress) and basic HTML; social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok); MailChimp or similar email service platforms; Later or other social media scheduling platforms; Microsoft 365 including Teams; Zoom or similar video conferencing platforms; Canva, Adobe Creative Suite and other static/moving image creation platforms; and, video creation and editing hardware and software platforms.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The qualified employee will work in a small open office, shared desk, setting, and interact with staff, consultants, outside vendors, and the public, therefore they may be subjected to interruptions throughout the workday. The position requires the ability to sit for sustained periods of time and travel locally. The vision requirement includes close vision. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 30 pounds.
