About Turning Point of Windham County

Turning Point of Windham County (TPWC) is a peer recovery center dedicated to supporting individuals and families impacted by substance use disorder. We provide a welcoming, stigma-free environment offering recovery coaching, peer support, educational programming, and community connection. Our work is rooted in compassion, collaboration, and the belief that recovery is possible for everyone.

    Position Overview

TPWC is seeking a certified Recovery Coach to support individuals in recovery while assisting with a county-wide rural outreach initiative across Windham County.

This role combines direct peer recovery coaching with community-based outreach in rural towns. The Recovery Coach – Rural Outreach will provide non-clinical, person-centered recovery support services while also helping to expand awareness of TPWC’s services, assess recovery needs in underserved areas, and strengthen local partnerships.

This is an ideal opportunity for a Recovery Coach who is passionate about both individual peer support and broader systems-level community impact.

    Recovery Coach Role Overview

Recovery Coaches provide non-clinical services intended to aid individuals in establishing and maintaining recovery from substance use disorder (SUD). Coaches promote an evidence-based, peer-centered approach with an emphasis on respect, self-direction, and empowerment. Services include peer support, personal assistance, education on community resources, and other supportive services.

    Key Responsibilities

    Rural Outreach Support

    • Assist the Rural Outreach Coordinator in meeting with community leaders, service providers, faith communities, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders across Windham County
    • Help assess local recovery needs, service gaps, and barriers to access
    • Provide education about TPWC’s recovery services in partnership with the State of Vermont Division of Substance Use and State Opioid Response initiatives
    • Support data collection, survey distribution, and outreach tracking
    • Represent TPWC professionally in diverse rural communities
    • Maintain confidentiality and uphold peer recovery and harm reduction values

    Direct Recovery Coaching

    • Set meeting times with participants while maintaining healthy and realistic boundaries
    • Maintain professional and ethical boundaries with those served
    • Provide peer support through coaching, role modeling, and mentoring
    • Assist participants in navigating recovery support systems and addressing barriers
    • Provide education on substance use, mental health, exercise, and overall wellness
    • Make referrals to community providers as appropriate
    • Advocate for participants to ensure access to necessary services
    • Facilitate recovery support groups as needed
    • Track client information and record all interactions in RDP
    • Collect coaching data and conduct follow-up surveys to support long-term engagement

    Requirements

    • Completion of Recovery Coach Academy (strongly preferred)
    • Strong understanding of peer recovery principles and harm reduction
    • Ability to maintain boundaries and confidentiality
    • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
    • Ability to work independently and travel throughout Windham County
    • Comfort with documentation and data tracking systems
    • Lived experience in recovery is valued but not required

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, community-oriented, and deeply committed to peer-based recovery support. They are equally comfortable sitting one-on-one with a participant as they are representing TPWC in a small-town meeting. They believe in recovery for everyone and are excited to help expand access in rural communities.
