    Grant Writer

    Reports to: Chief Development Officer

    Location: Main Office (Hybrid — Primarily Remote)

    Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt

    Hours of work: 20 hours per week as scheduled

    Position Summary

    The Grant Writer is responsible for researching, identifying, and pursuing grant opportunities that align with The Center for Empowerment and Education’s (CEE) mission and strategic goals. They manage the full grant lifecycle—from developing compelling proposals and submitting applications to ensuring compliance, accurate reporting, and effective use of awarded funds. This role is critical in communicating CEE’s impact and ensuring strong alignment with funders’ priorities to support organizational growth.

    Essential Responsibilities

    Organizational Knowledge and Strategy

    • Study and understand the history, structure, objectives, programs, and financial needs of the organization.
    • Identify prospective funders, cultivate and manage current partnerships, and develop competitive applications in coordination with the CEO and Chief Development Officer (CDO).
    • Match grant proposals to funders’ criteria.
    • Develop strategies and tactics to increase financial contributions over time.

    Grant Research, Writing, and Submission

    • Research, organize, write, and submit grant proposals to public, private, corporate, government, and foundation funding sources.
    • Draft and submit Letters of Intent (LOIs) and full grant proposals.
    • Collaborate across teams to gather and include relevant inputs and necessary data into each proposal.
    • Assemble all relevant components of proposals and ensure submissions meet funder-specific parameters and detailed requirements.
    • Meet proposal deadlines by following systems and timelines for proposal creation, including information gathering, writing, review, approval, and submission.

    Grant Management and Reporting

    • Develop and maintain a grant database and calendar to track application progress, deadlines, and reporting requirements.
    • Support grant management for secured grants, including documenting and communicating reporting requirements, tracking funder correspondence, and producing grant progress reports.
    • Work with the CEO, CFAO, and Program Directors to create budgets for proposals and reports.

    Donor and Development Support

    • Input development data, including donor contact reports and research.
    • Actively manage grants, foundations, and donor resource contacts through personal contact or coordination via the CEO or Leadership Team.
    • Support Development Team members during fundraising events and campaigns as needed.

    Administrative and General Responsibilities

    • Participate in professional development activities such as webinars and conferences as needed.
    • Perform other duties as assigned to support the goals of the Development Office.
    • Read emails and staff intranet in a timely manner to stay current on organizational activities and information.
    • Some travel may be required for this position.

    • Professional demeanor with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
    • Dependable and punctual with strong time management skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); familiarity with databases is a plus

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in English, Writing, Public Administration, Project Management, Marketing, Grant Writing, or a related field
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an administrative or grant writing role
    • Demonstrated success in securing grants, with a history of funded proposals

    Working Conditions

    This position requires work to take place in a professional office setting equipped with standard office equipment. The work environment typically has a low to moderate noise level. Occasional travel may be required to attend meetings, events, or conferences. Additionally, schedule flexibility may be necessary at times to meet submission deadlines or to participate in events held during evenings or weekends. This position is primarily remote with some in-office expectations as needed.

    Physical Demands

    • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods (e.g., sitting or standing).
    • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computers and phones.
    • Occasional driving, walking, or standing at outreach or court sites.
