Business Engagement Manager, Corporate Standards

Location and pay: Flexible location with preference for Latin America.

Competitive pay based on location. The indicative full-time rate if based in Brazil is 12 000 - 13 500 R$ per month

Hours: Between 0.8-1 FTE, with flexibility for the right person.

Effective corporate climate reporting is critical to addressing the climate crisis; if corporations don’t clearly account for their emissions, there is no way to ensure they are reduced. The de facto global standards for corporate emissions accounting are currently under review. That means we have a once-in-a-decade opportunity to fix major loopholes in emissions reporting and increase corporate accountability for climate impacts.

There is a pressing need for a Business Engagement Lead who can build and mobilise a coalition of climate-leading companies willing to champion stronger corporate emissions reporting. This role combines relationship-building, strategic advocacy, and deep engagement with business leaders to translate corporate climate ambition into public support for meaningful reform. With leading scientists warning we are failing in our efforts to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees, there are few jobs that offer a greater opportunity to shape how the private sector shows up for climate accountability.

Action Speaks Louder (ASL) is a not-for-profit galvanising people around the world to hold major corporations to account for their climate promises. We focus on persuading corporations to walk the talk on climate, in order to help deliver international climate goals.

If we can convince large consumer-facing, brand-sensitive corporations to live up to their climate commitments, it will transform the landscape – dramatically reducing greenhouse gas emissions and boosting renewable energy procurement, whilst creating the political space for governments to increase ambition.

About you

• You are an experienced business engagement or corporate partnerships professional, and can tell us about the impact your work has delivered in shifting corporate practice.
• You have a demonstrated understanding of how power operates within corporate and industry ecosystems, and what motivates business leaders to act ahead of regulation.
• You have a demonstrated understanding of corporate climate policy and can develop a working knowledge of how emissions accounting standards shape corporate decision-making and unlock business benefits.
• You are a creative, strategic thinker who can build compelling cases and coalitions to move targeted business stakeholders toward stronger climate commitments.
• You have proven experience building and maintaining trust-based relationships with business leaders, industry associations, and multi-stakeholder initiatives, and can work collaboratively across diverse and sometimes competing interests.
• You are a strong communicator who excels at translating technical accounting issues into clear, credible business cases that resonate with corporate decision-makers.
• You bring existing networks or fluency in the corporate and civil society landscape, and can engage business leaders and stakeholders in English, Spanish and/or Portuguese. Fluency in English is essential.

Key responsibilities

• This role will report to the team leader, Corporate Standards
• As part of a small team, co-develop a campaign strategy that builds a coalition of climate-leading businesses to support stronger emissions reporting and corporate accountability.
• Identify and engage experts and allies (corporate, political, academic, legal, NGO) - with a particular focus on business leaders - to collaborate on shaping emissions reporting standards.
• Identify, build, and steward relationships with key decision-makers, industry associations, investors, and influencers, including a dedicated focus on companies and business networks.
• Develop and nurture partnerships with NGOs, coalitions, and multi-stakeholder initiatives to coordinate advocacy efforts.
• Analyse developments in corporate GHG emissions reporting regimes and standards, both voluntary and mandatory.
• Organise and participate in networking events, roundtables, and forums.
• Support media outreach by providing briefings, quotes, spokespeople, and background research.
• Help plan business-facing convenings, joint statements, or public commitments that demonstrate corporate leadership on climate accountability.

Note that the role involves regular international calls outside of normal working hours, and

some travel.

Fully remote. Location flexible, preference for Latin America. You must have the right to work in the country you live in (please note we are not able to offer sponsorship for a business visa or work permit at this time).
