    Descrição

    The Role

The Operations Manager is responsible for stewarding Union’s financial, operational, and people systems so the shop runs with consistency, care, and sustainability. This role partners closely with the Executive Director and shop leadership to ensure excellent hospitality, healthy staff culture, and strong financial practices.

The ideal candidate is both detail-oriented and deeply people-centered—someone who can manage budgets and systems while also nurturing trust, clarity, and belonging on the team.

    What You’ll Be Responsible For

    Financial Stewardship

    • Oversee day-to-day financial operations including budgeting, payroll, AP/AR, and reporting
    • Track labor, COGS, and key financial trends to support sustainability
    • Partner with the Executive Director on financial planning and decision-making

    Staff Leadership & Culture

    • Supervise and support shop leadership and staff with clarity, care, and accountability
    • Hire, onboard, train, and coach staff in alignment with Union’s values
    • Cultivate an inclusive, affirming workplace grounded in dignity, equity, and belonging

    Operations & Quality

    • Oversee operational systems and SOPs to ensure consistency and excellence
    • Support scheduling, drink quality, service standards, and seasonal menu development
    • Ensure health, safety, and compliance standards are met

    Inventory, Vendors & Facilities

    • Oversee inventory systems, ordering, vendor relationships, and cost management
    • Coordinate facilities maintenance and equipment care with a proactive mindset

    Mission Alignment

    • Ensure daily operations reflect Union’s mission and core values
    • Support storytelling and impact tracking that helps us understand and share who we serve

    What We’re Looking For

    Required Qualifications

    • Experience managing financial systems (budgeting, payroll, reporting, AP/AR)
    • 2+ years of leadership or management experience in hospitality, retail, nonprofit, or similar environments
    • Strong organizational and communication skills
    • Experience supervising, coaching, and supporting staff
    • Commitment to LGBTQ+ affirmation, racial equity, and inclusive workplace practices
    • Comfort with Google Workspace, POS systems, and financial tools
    • High integrity, discretion, and trustworthiness

    Preferred (But Not Required)

    • Experience with restaurant or coffee shop financial metrics (COGS, labor %)
    • Nonprofit or small-business accounting experience
    • Familiarity with inventory systems and vendor management
    • Comfort working in or alongside faith-based or justice-oriented spaces

    Compensation & Benefits

    • Salary: $65,000–$69,000
    • Insurance stipend: $425/month
    • Cell phone reimbursement: $50/month
    • Retirement plan with up to 5% employer match after 6 months
    • Generous PTO and sick leave

Who This Job Is Not For

We believe clarity is a form of care—for you and for us.

This role may not be a good fit if:

    • You prefer purely transactional or corporate environments without a strong values lens
    • You are uncomfortable affirming LGBTQ+ identities or working in explicitly inclusive spaces
    • You want to focus only on systems and numbers without engaging people and culture
    • You dislike ambiguity, change, or the realities of a small, mission-driven organization
    • You expect operations to be separate from community, justice, or storytelling
    • You are looking for a low-relational, behind-the-scenes role with minimal staff interaction

At Union, operations are not neutral—they shape people’s experiences of belonging, care, and dignity. This role carries real responsibility, real trust, and real impact.

    How to Apply

    Please submit the following materials:

    1. Resume
    2. Short written responses (1–2 paragraphs each) to the questions below:
      • What draws you to this Operations Manager role at Union?
      • How do you approach leading people while also managing systems and accountability?
      • What experience do you have stewarding financial or operational systems?

We will begin reviewing applications on a rolling basis and will contact candidates selected for next steps.

What to Expect in the Hiring Process

We aim to run a hiring process that is clear, respectful, and aligned with our values. Our current plan includes:

    1. Application review
    2. Initial conversation (30–45 minutes, virtual)
    3. Second-round interview (focused on leadership, operations, and culture)
    4. In-person assessment at Union
      • A collaborative, scenario-based session designed to understand how you think, communicate, and approach real operational situations
      • This is not a test and does not require advance preparation
    5. Final conversation and references

We will communicate timelines clearly and keep candidates informed throughout the process.

Union Coffee is an equal opportunity employer. We especially encourage applications from LGBTQ+ individuals, people of color, and those from communities historically excluded from leadership roles.
