    JOB SUMMARY:

    The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for contributing to and executing integrated communications and marketing strategies that elevate the organization’s brand, engage key stakeholders, and support advocacy and education efforts.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Communications & Brand Management

      • Contribute to and execute an annual strategic marketing communications plan to support the organization’s mission of improving health outcomes through education, advocacy, and outreach.
      • Maintain and strengthen consistent brand identity and positioning across all communication channels, collateral, materials, and campaigns.
      • Collaborate with leadership to ensure alignment of messaging with strategic priorities and organizational goals.
      • Identify opportunities to raise visibility of the organization’s programs.

    Content Development & Storytelling

      • Write, edit, and produce engaging content for newsletters, blogs, press releases, websites, and educational campaigns.
      • Develop key messages and success stories that highlight the organization’s impact and mission-driven work.
      • Translate complex medical and scientific information into clear, accessible language for patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.
      • Oversee the creation of print and digital marketing materials, working with designers, writers, and vendors as needed.

    Social Media Management & Digital Engagement

      • Execute defined strategy to manage social media and content calendaracross platforms (Facebook, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Threads, BlueSky, etc.).
      • Create, schedule, and post engaging multimedia content to build community, drive engagement, and increase followers across Allergy & Asthma Network platforms
      • Stay current with social media trends, best practices, and emerging platforms relevant to nonprofit health communications to discuss with team and decide how to leverage.

    Public Relations & Media Outreach

      • Serve as a key point of contact for media inquiries and proactively pitch stories that align with organizational priorities.
      • Draft and distribute press releases, sensitive messaging, media advisories, and statements.
      • Support organizational spokespeople with talking points, interview preparation, and media training.
      • Monitor media coverage and maintain a media contact database.

    Campaigns, Events, & Community Outreach

      • Plan and promote awareness campaigns for webinars, educational events, and advocacy initiatives.
      • Coordinate marketing support for community and professional conferences, including booth displays, handouts, and promotional materials.
      • Collaborate with partner organizations, sponsors, and coalitions to expand reach and participation.
      • Develop post-campaign and event reports to measure success and ROI.

    Analytics, Reporting, & Evaluation

      • Track and report performance metrics for marketing campaigns, website traffic, and social media engagement with the goals of expanding audience growth and engagement; adjust strategy accordingly.
      • Use analytics tools to evaluate effectiveness and inform data-driven improvements.
      • Present regular reports to leadership on communications impact and trends.

    Collaboration & Leadership

      • Work collaboratively with digital team members, contractors, and others.
      • Work cross-functionally across departments to ensure consistent messaging and coordinated outreach.
      • Manage budgets, vendor relationships, and project timelines.
      • Foster a culture of collaboration, creativity, and mission-driven communication.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

    • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Health, a related field, or equivalent experience.
    • Minimum of 5 years progressive work experience in communications, marketing, digital engagement, or public affairs, including experience managing projects or coordinating small teams or vendors.
    • Lived experience with food allergies or asthma preferred.

    Skills & Competencies:

    • Strong writer and editor with clear, engaging storytelling skills.
    • Skilled at translating complex health topics into plain language content for different audiences.
    • Technically savvy and a quick learner at using new platforms and applications to keep up with trends and new ways to reach people and elevate the organization’s brand and brand awareness.
    • Hands-on experience managing digital platforms, email marketing tools, and social media.
    • Able to plan work, manage multiple projects at once, and meet deadlines in a remote setting.
    • Strong project management skills with experience coordinating timelines, tasks, and stakeholders.
    • Clear oral and written communication skills with comfort presenting information to colleagues and external audiences.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Solid records management habits.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools such as ClickUp.
    • Able to organize work, set priorities, and follow through with limited supervision.
    • Skilled at listening to and integrating different viewpoints to support alignment.
    • Comfortable working in a remote, mission driven, small team setting.
    • High EQ and effective collaborator across departments, roles, and external partners.
    • Comfortable supporting media outreach and external visibility with coaching available as needed.
    • Treats colleagues, volunteers, and partners with respect and a relationship-first orientation.
    • Demonstrates integrity, honesty, and personal accountability.
    • Commitment to ongoing professional learning to maintain and enhance skills.

    WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT

    • Minimal physical effort required.
    • Minimal exposure to physical risk.
    • Work occurs in an office or home office setting. Computer-based work requires sustained focus with frequent interruptions and shifting priorities. The role requires flexibility to pivot to urgent issues, respond quickly, and write under pressure with clarity and accuracy.
    • Occasional local and long-distance travel to medical meetings or staff retreats.
    • Remote position. Candidates must reside in the U.S. and be available during East Coast business hours.
