    Descrição

The Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW), an award-winning worker-led human rights organization, is hiring a Campaign Coordinator to help advance its Campaign for Fair Food. The position is based out of Immokalee, FL.

Join the internationally recognized, locally driven organization that forged the gold standard for human rights enforcement in agriculture — a model now studied and replicated around the world.

    ABOUT THE ROLE

The CIW’s national Campaign for Fair Food educates consumers on the issue of farm labor exploitation and forges alliances between farmworkers and consumers in an effort to enlist the market power of major corporate buyers to help end that exploitation. One of the most well-known and highly regarded consumer campaigns of its generation, the CIW’s Campaign for Fair Food is known for its innovative, creative multi-day tours, marches, and other actions as well as an engaged base of allies. Through these efforts, the CIW and allies have brought 14 multinational corporations into the Fair Food Program, eliminating egregious human rights abuses from the supply chains of participating buyers.

The Campaign Coordinator works with a dynamic multi-lingual team of farmworker leaders who direct the campaign, as well as a diverse base of consumers, faith leaders, community groups, and youth and students. Ideal candidates are highly responsible, work well in teams as part of a fast-paced environment, and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. The position includes the opportunity of regular travel across the U.S.

The CIW seeks a dedicated, mission-driven individual comfortable communicating in both Spanish and English (additional languages are a plus). Experience living or working in rural settings in the United States or internationally is strongly recommended. Flexibility in relating to people from diverse cultures, languages, and professional backgrounds is essential. Curiosity, creativity, nimble thinking, and a sense of humor are also highly valued.

This position is based in Immokalee, Florida, the hometown of both the Coalition of Immokalee Workers and the Fair Food Program. Working in Immokalee means becoming part of a vibrant and resilient community that is helping transform agriculture and other low-wage industries worldwide. Applicants may also live/reside in the Ft. Myers or Naples area.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

Campaign Organizers collaborate on the following broad areas of work:

    • Formulating strategies and tactics, and contributing to the vision and direction of the national Campaign for Fair Food
    • Building and maintaining strong relationships with a broad network of organizations and individuals who seek to work in partnership with farmworkers in the Campaign for Fair Food, including people of faith and religious institutions, food justice advocates, worker and community groups, students and young people and/or human rights organizations
    • Planning major mobilizations, tours, and events
    • Developing new Fair Food Groups and/or Student/Farmworker Alliance chapters in priority cities and campuses and providing ongoing assistance with goals and objectives, meeting facilitation and local campaign strategies and initiatives
    • Coordinating a youth leadership development program, including campaign strategy gatherings, skill-building trainings, and regular communication with the national Student/Farmworker Alliance Organizing Committee
    • Coordinating the national Fair Food Faith Working Group, a committee of national faith leaders who advise and carry out strategies to support campaign work
    • Supporting the delegation of projects and overall coordination of the CIW Internship Program
    • Co-presenting and facilitating workshops and presentations with CIW farmworker leaders
    • Interpreting between Spanish and English for presentations and support with written translation as needed
    • Raising consciousness and engaging ally base through targeted outreach, online actions, institutional endorsements, sign-on letters, etc.
    • Working closely with CIW’s communication team to compose and frame public messaging for the Campaign for Fair Food
    • Creating visual and written content for CIW’s web blog, social media accounts, and email campaigns

While CIW Staff may choose to commute from Fort Myers, Naples, or other locations around Immokalee, please note that being present in the CIW office is integral to the position, given responsibilities in the Immokalee community and on local farms. As such, this position is fully on-site in Immokalee with occasional travel.

    • A deep commitment to advancing farmworker rights and following the leadership of workers
