Position Overview
The Human Resources Specialist will lead key HR functions including employee relations, benefits administration, recruitment, onboarding, and compliance reporting. The successful candidate will bring strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of HR practices in a non-profit and/or grant-funded environment.
Key Responsibilities
Advise staff on HR policies, procedures, and available benefits.
Manage full-cycle recruitment, including job postings, candidate screening, interviews, and hiring.
Lead onboarding and offboarding processes to ensure consistency and compliance.
Administer employee benefits, including medical coverage, pension enrollment, and leave tracking.
Maintain accurate personnel records and support audit readiness for funders and regulators.
Provide guidance on employee relations matters and assist in conflict resolution.
Generate HR reports and track data for internal planning and external funder compliance.
Assist in developing and updating internal HR policies and employee handbook content.
Support compliance with local, state, and federal employment regulations.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required; HR certification (SHRM-CP, PHR) preferred.
At least 5 years of HR experience, preferably in a non-profit or grant-funded organization.
Familiarity with benefit administration, employee support, and union or labor-management environments a plus.
Strong working knowledge of employment law and HR best practices.
Proficiency with HRIS platforms and Microsoft Office Suite.
Exceptional communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
High level of professionalism, discretion, and integrity.
