JOB SUMMARY
INCLUDEnyc is seeking a Director of Development with demonstrated success in maintaining and expanding a diversified revenue base to join a well-established nonprofit organization focused on serving children and youth with disabilities, their families, and the professionals that support them in New York City.
Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Director of Development will coordinate with senior leadership to manage the organization’s revenue and collaborate on fundraising efforts. The Director will be responsible for developing and executing a sustainable fundraising strategy, including identifying new fundraising opportunities, cultivating relationships with donors, and securing nongovernmental grants. The Director will play a key role in strengthening INCLUDEnyc’s financial health to support its mission and programming.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Fundraising Strategy and Revenue Growth
- Lead the organization’s Development team in defining and executing an effective fundraising strategy focused on private institutional and individual funding.
- Identify, cultivate, and secure new funding opportunities to diversify revenue streams, including corporate sponsorships, major gifts, foundation grants, and individual giving.
- Create and execute annual fundraising campaigns, including online appeals, donor engagement campaigns, and stewardship programs.
- Establish metrics to track fundraising performance and provide regular progress reports to the Senior Leadership team and the Board.
- Track and manage all fundraising efforts using Salesforce to ensure accurate reporting and management.
Donor Engagement and Stewardship
- Develop and implement a donor cultivation and stewardship strategy to retain and grow INCLUDEnyc’s donor base.
- Plan and execute donor initiatives, including fundraising and recognition events, newsletters, and personalized outreach.
- Compose and manage effective donor communications in collaboration with the programs and communications teams.
- Work collaboratively with Partner and Community Engagement to develop an integrated approach to external partnerships and sponsorships.
Grant Acquisition and Management
- Research and identify new grant opportunities to support INCLUDEnyc initiatives.
- Collaborate with program and finance teams to align funding opportunities with organizational needs and priorities.
- Develop and write compelling grant proposals and reports to secure and maintain funding from foundations and other grant-making entities.
- Track and monitor grant requirements and ensure compliance with reporting deadlines.
- Monitor the maintenance of accurate grant records in Salesforce and develop reporting capabilities for internal stakeholders.
Board Relations
- Prepare and present fundraising reports for the Board of Directors, providing insights on revenue progress and strategic initiatives.
- Facilitate meetings with the Board Development committee, working with the committee chair to set agendas and ensure board alignment on fundraising goals and activities.
- Collaborate with board members to leverage their networks and resources for fundraising opportunities.
- Provide guidance and updates on sponsorships, donor engagement, and grant funding to support board-driven initiatives.
- Co-manage the junior board with the Executive Director to support the planning and executing of events and fundraising efforts at an appropriate level for each junior board member.
Management and Leadership
- Ensure fundraising strategy consistently aligns with the organization’s values and mission.
- Be an active participant in the organization’s leadership as appropriate.
- Regularly report fundraising status and pipeline to senior leadership.
- Facilitate collaboration and productive problem-solving among and across teams.
- Effectively direct and delegate work; train and support staff to ensure they can effectively meet their role requirements.
- Manage team members' performance, including providing ongoing feedback, identifying necessary training, and completing semi-annual performance reviews.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
- Minimum of eight years of nonprofit fundraising experience with a demonstrated track record of diversified revenue generation
- Grant writing expertise, with the ability to write proposals and oversee the grant management process, including submission and follow-up.
- Ability to think strategically and drive towards goals without losing attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect to diverse stakeholders.
- Very strong written communication skills with the ability to adapt style, as appropriate, given the medium and the audience.
- Organized and able to oversee the organization and maintenance of development records and related information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Apps for Business (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Drive), and Salesforce is required.
- Self-starter and able to take initiative to move projects forward.
- Experience working in, and a passion for, a team-based and collaborative work environment.
- Ability and initiative to brainstorm and identify solutions when confronted with roadblocks.
- Commitment to INCLUDEnyc’s mission and the youth and families we serve.
- Knowledge of the New York special education and disability sectors is a plus.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
The salary range for the position is between $105,000 and $115,000 and is commensurate with demonstrated experience and abilities. INCLUDEnyc also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical and dental coverage, paid parental leave, participation in a retirement plan with employer matching, sick and vacation leave, paid holidays, and more.
INCLUDEnyc currently works a hybrid schedule with two in-office days required.
