    Scope of Position:

    Under the supervision of the Intern Supervisor, the Counselor/Advocate is primarily responsible for providing individual, group, and hotline counseling for domestic violence victims and their families. This position includes a minimum of 10 hours per week of hotline counseling on the Philadelphia Domestic Violence Hotline. Lutheran Settlement House covers the Philadelphia Domestic Violence Hotline, Monday to Friday, 7am-9pm. This position is in-person in our Fishtown office.

    Functions and Duties:

    • Provides individual counseling, hotline counseling, advocacy, and referral services to domestic violence victims and their families.
    • Maintains client record accurately in accordance with agency standards
    • Provides at least 10 hours per week of scheduled hotline coverage at LSH Mainsite in our Fishtown office.
    • Facilitates or co-facilitates group counseling for domestic violence victims and their families, remotely, onsite and in community settings.
    • Maintains current knowledge of Protection from Abuse order procedures, applicable laws, and community resources.
    • Provides referrals and advocacy related to domestic violence, substance use, mental health, healthcare, and other supportive services, as needed.
    • Participates in the development of outreach materials and workshops on domestic violence issues to the larger community, especially those that are historically marginalized.
    • Participates in team/staff meetings, in-service and volunteer trainings, and other LSH/BDVP functions as schedule allows.
    • Meets regularly with supervisor to review program activity, services issues, and other program matters. This includes a routine review of service documentation and other program information to assure compliance with program standards and agency service goals
    • Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required for BDVP functions and programming, with flexible scheduling provided.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in human services, social work, or a related field preferred but not required. One year of relevant supervised experience may be substituted for each year of education.
    • Demonstrated understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence, knowledge of community resources, and sensitivity to the needs of survivors of domestic violence and their families.
    • Strong active listening, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
    • Successful completion of a 40-hour domestic violence training (provided by LSH) is required.
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred; proficiency in other languages is a plus.

    Nível de Proficiência do Idioma

    Proficient in English (reading/writing/verbal communication), Bilingual English and Spanish preferred. Bilingual hires compensated commensurately.
