This is a hybrid position and will require both in-office (3 days) and remote work (2 days)
CancerCare is the leading national organization dedicated to providing free, professional support services, including resource navigation, individual counseling, support groups, educational workshops, publications, and financial assistance to anyone affected by cancer.
CancerCare seeks 2 Oncology Social Workers for its New York City Office, located at 485 Madison Ave. The position is full-time, Monday through Friday, two days 11 AM to 7 PM and three days 9 AM to 5 PM.
The Oncology Social Workers will be responsible for:
- Providing immediate assistance and support to cancer patients, caregivers, and/or those who are bereaved, contacting CancerCare via a national toll-free Hopeline
- Providing individual counseling (in-person, via Zoom, and/or telephone), as well as support groups (in-person, via Zoom, telephone, and/or message board)
- Providing resource navigation via telephone to people with cancer and
- Addressing client needs by conducting timely and effective psychosocial assessments and evaluations as needed
- Utilizes knowledge of community resources to refer clients to appropriate services to ensure continuity and quality of care
- Documents all social work activities in a timely manner according to departmental protocols
- Participating in local presentations, workshops, health fairs, fundraising, walks, and community events (in-person and via Zoom)
- Upholding the CancerCare brand and philosophy
Requirements
- Minimum of one-year post-master’s social work experience, previous medical social work experience strongly preferred
- Bilingual Spanish strongly preferred
- Qualified applicants must have a Master’s Degree in Social Work; a Licensed Master of Social Work credential in New York is REQUIRED
- A background in health, hospice, or mental health settings delivering intervention to clients coping with chronic and acute life-threatening illness, as well as with the bereaved, is required. Knowledge of medical and psychosocial aspects of cancer is preferred
- A willingness to work with clients who are experiencing stress and trauma in their lives as a result of coping with chronic and life-threatening illnesses
- Excellent communication (both oral and written), highly organized with strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to write quickly, clearly, and compellingly
- Proficiency in computer skills and Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Zoom) as well as the ability to utilize multiple programs simultaneously
