    About NEEP

Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP) is a regional nonprofit that drives regional collaboration and best practices in energy efficiency so the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region can lower energy bills, reduce air and carbon pollution, create jobs, and improve energy and climate resilience. NEEP focuses on the components key to rapid and equitable energy efficiency, electrification, and grid flexibility – strong policies and regulations, market transformation, community-led solutions, and a diverse and experienced workforce. NEEP supports collaboration among government, industry, community groups, academia, and advocates to drive long-term regional change. Learn more about NEEP at www.neep.org.

Our Culture: Why work with us?

Our team is our most valuable resource. We represent a mosaic of backgrounds, ideas, perspectives, and life experiences. The thing that unites us is our common vision – to foster a future where the region’s homes, buildings, businesses, and communities are transformed into efficient, affordable, low-carbon, resilient places to live, work, and play. We've nurtured an environment that values creative thinking and well-informed decision-making, embracing collaboration, integrity, community and innovation. Our leadership places a strong emphasis on transparency, accessibility, authenticity, and the growth of our employees.

    What’s In It For You:

NEEP is based in Massachusetts, with staff in locations around the New England and Mid-Atlantic regions. We are a remote-first organization, which allows our employees to work in any of NEEP's 13 states/jurisdictions in the region. If you are someone who can inspire groups of people and organizations to work collaboratively towards a common goal, then please keep reading.

The Senior Manager, Policy and Programs, is responsible for the day-to-day management of a portfolio of research, tools, and stakeholder engagement in NEEP’s Policy and Programs team. This will include management of NEEP’s role as convener of the New England Heat Pump Accelerator, a major regional building decarbonization initiative that NEEP is helping to implement. The role offers an exciting opportunity to drive the growth of heat pump solutions and statewide energy efficiency policy in a leading region with ambitious goals, investment, partners and momentum. The portfolio includes developing strategies, managing stakeholder working groups, scoping and overseeing development of resources, and managing budgets. The position may also include supervising people. If you possess a knack for both independent work and team coordination, you might be just who we're looking for. If you also have a deep interest in nonprofit work and the passion to champion mission-driven vision and values, we'd love to hear from you. You will thrive in NEEP’s collaborative and fast-paced work environment and will respect and uphold our commitment to our mission and our core values.

A Day In The Life Of This Role:

In this role, you will work with a wide array of NEEP stakeholders, including state energy offices, utilities, energy efficiency program administrators, advocates, manufacturers, distributors, contractors, consultants, and nonprofit organizations across the region to facilitate policy and program implementation for buildings and industry. Priority topics currently include advancing energy efficiency and building decarbonization policies at the state and regional levels through avenues such as energy efficiency portfolios, utility planning, clean heat standards, and other state-level policies. The Senior Manager will convene and coordinate activity across regional stakeholders and experts through working groups and advisory committees, including coordination of the New England Heat Pump Accelerator, promoting best practices for policy and implementation of energy efficiency and building decarbonization policies at the state level, and publishing high-quality research on a range of topics including but not limited to energy efficiency, electrification, and grid flexibility in the residential and commercial building and industrial sectors. The Senior Manager will be expected to respect and uphold NEEP’s core values. The Senior Manager reports to the Director, Policy and Programs.

What NEEP is looking for in a candidate:

    • 7+ years of progressively senior experience in energy efficiency, project management, and stakeholder engagement and at least one year of manager-level experience.
    • Advanced degree preferred but not required.
    • Subject matter expertise in one or more of these areas: utility or statewide energy efficiency programs, building decarbonization state level policies, heating and hot water electrification including cold-climate heat pumps, statewide energy efficiency workforce policy, rate design for efficiency or electrification, demand response programs, and technical resource manuals.
    • Sound knowledge of the historical background of other players and evolution of the industry over time.
    • Ability to collect, organize, analyze, disseminate, and interpret relevant industry data to all levels of the organization.
    • Ability to place NEEP within the industry and apply knowledge to strategic decision-making.
    • Up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and trends.
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate internally and externally.
    • Ability to develop and manage budgets and proposals for complex, multi-year grant proposals.
    • Ability to communicate program area strategy and activities to a variety of audiences, including funders.
    • Demonstrated project management skills; accountability for project deliverables and financial systems.
    • Experience developing strategic program initiatives that advance NEEP’s regional mission.
    • Ability to lead the hiring and development of staff; take responsibility for the performance of the team.
    • Ability to support team members in their professional development.

Applicants must reside in one of NEEP's 13 states/jurisdictions in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region (Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia).

The position is exempt and scheduled 40 hours per week although additional hours including evenings and weekends may be required.

NEEP is a remote workplace and offers employees a flexible schedule. Our generous benefits package includes health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance coverage; a 401(k)-retirement plan with a generous match; a work from home stipend; accrued paid time off; and 12 paid holidays (four of which are floating holidays – take them whenever you'd like!).

At this point, we hope you're feeling excited about this job opportunity. Even if you don't feel that you meet every single requirement, we still encourage you to apply. We're eager to meet people who believe in our mission and can contribute to our team in a variety of ways – not just candidates who check all the boxes. We want people to feel comfortable expressing their true selves and to come, stay, and do their best work here.

NEEP is committed to a policy of non-discrimination and equal opportunity for all employees and qualified applicants without regard to race, color, sex, age, national origin, and physical or mental disability. We apply this policy to ensure non-discriminatory practices in recruiting, hiring, training, promotion, compensation, benefits, and all other activities. This also supports our capacity to achieve our mission on a regional scale.
