    Position Mission

    The Domestic Violence Legal Advocacy Project (DV LEAD) provides representation to domestic violence survivors in contested protection orders, dissolutions, parenting plan and parentage cases. The Legal Case Manager will work with the highly collaborative DV LEAD team consisting of the Managing Attorney, one to two Staff Attorneys and a Legal Assistant. The Legal Case Manager provides trauma-informed support to clients as they seek advice and representation with a domestic violence protection order and/or a family law case and supports the legal team in ongoing caseloads. Client support is provided throughout the various phases of the case from initial client contact through the completion of legal representation. The Legal Case Manager will be responsible for initial intakes of potential clients referred by advocates, as well as providing case management support to existing clients.The Legal Case Manager will work closely with attorneys and provide legal support to attorneys with full caseloads.The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational, management, communication and technology skills, an understanding of the legal system, and be a team player. This position will work in a hybrid work environment involving in-person and remote work.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Management of competing deadlines, client communications, program goals and DV LEAD team capacity
    • Provide legal support for attorneys, including drafting legal documents, organizing evidence, tracking case deadlines, preparing filings and other administrative tasks;
    • Manage case referrals and collaborate and promote community relationships between the DV LEAD Project and domestic violence advocates, legal service organizations, and other community partners as the point of contact for the team;
    • Communicate with clients in a trauma informed way including providing case updates and legal information, conducting client interviews with individuals in crisis to assess legal and non-legal needs, and support clients as they navigate legal options and the legal process;
    • Provide community and safety planning resources to clients;
    • Facilitate and support clients to attend court hearings as needed;
    • Provide administrative support including data collection for grant reporting;
    • Participate in KCBA or Pro Bono Services projects or initiatives as needed.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    • Demonstrated management and organizational skills, including ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and meet competing deadlines, handle case referrals, understand caseload/capacity, and ability to anticipate program needs;
    • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a collaborative team, ability to independently complete tasks, and ability to receive and implement feedback;
    • Prior experience working with diverse clients and communities, and individuals in crisis;
    • Past legal experience and understanding of the legal system and role of attorneys;
    • Demonstrated strong communication (written and oral) skills and ability to work with interpreters;
    • College degree or comparable combination of education and relevant work or lived experience;
    • High level of skill with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe, and DocuSign;
    • High attention to detail and strong use of technology;
    • Skilled problem solver and ability to independently investigate solutions;
    • Understanding of the impact of race, bias, discrimination, and differential treatment of communities disproportionately composed of Black, Indigenous, and people of color, individuals who identify as LGBTQ or other sexual minorities, individuals with disabilities, immigrants, limited English speaking persons, and others who have been historically marginalized in the law and justice system;
    • Ability to work well in an environment exposed to secondary trauma and communicate in a trauma informed way;
    • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage crisis.

    PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Prior experience with domestic violence desired by not required;
    • Knowledge of family law desired but not required;
    • Fluency in a language other than English desired but not required.

    LOCATION

    This position is hybrid with both in-person and remote workwith flexibility to work from downtown Seattle office ideally one day a week.

    POSITION DETAILS

    This is a non-exempt full-time position requiring occasional local travel within King County. Salary range is from $63,000 to $68,000 annually.
