    Descrição

    The Team

The GitLab Foundation is a high-performing, fully remote team that moves quickly, values curiosity, and is deeply results-oriented. We bring together diverse experience across philanthropy, nonprofit leadership, the private sector, and research—leveraging that range of perspectives to act with rigor, empathy, and strategic clarity.

Our culture is grounded in our CREDIT values and shaped by respect, humility, open debate, and a strong bias for action. This is a hands-on environment where priorities evolve, decisions move quickly, and team members are expected to take initiative without waiting for perfect clarity. We hold ourselves to high standards, operate with transparency and ownership, and are comfortable navigating ambiguity as we iterate, learn, and improve. Above all, we are united by a shared commitment to delivering meaningful, measurable impact in the lives of those we serve.

    The Role

The Impact Modeling Analyst will be a member of the Impact Insights team, supporting the Director of Impact in advancing one of the GitLab Foundation’s most critical capabilities: using rigorous quantitative analysis to understand, forecast, and maximize the impact of our investments. Impact modeling is central to how the Foundation makes decisions—informing which opportunities we pursue, how we allocate capital, and how we assess whether our grantmaking and advisory work is delivering meaningful economic outcomes.

The Analyst will primarily focus on building, maintaining, and improving return-on-investment (ROI) and impact forecasting models that inform grantmaking decisions, portfolio strategy, and advisory engagements. Working under the guidance of the Director, the Analyst will analyze data from grantees, external research, and partner organizations to strengthen the Foundation’s ability to estimate expected outcomes, assess realized results, and continuously improve how we measure impact.

This role is primarily analytical and modeling-focused, with responsibility for conducting data analysis, maintaining modeling datasets, and translating modeling outputs into clear visualizations, summaries, and actionable insights. The Analyst will also help advance the Foundation’s modeling capabilities by exploring and applying emerging approaches, including AI-enabled tools and techniques, and staying current on developments in economics, data science, and technology that can strengthen our work.

As part of the Impact Insights team, the Analyst will contribute to a cutting-edge approach to impact measurement and learning that is fundamental to the Foundation’s strategy and ambition to maximize economic impact. The Analyst will report to the Director of Impact.

    Key Responsibilities

    Impact Modeling and Forecasting

    • Develop and maintain practical, decision-oriented impact and ROI models that estimate expected outcomes of the Foundation’s grantmaking portfolio and advisory engagements at both the individual investment and portfolio levels, including appropriate counterfactual assumptions.
    • Apply the Foundation’s “rigorous but reasonable” approach to impact modeling—using robust analytical methods while balancing data availability, practical constraints, and the needs of decision-makers and partners.
    • Refine modeling assumptions, methodologies, and counterfactuals based on investment outcomes, new data, research findings, and organizational learning.
    • Conduct scenario analyses and sensitivity testing to understand potential variation in outcomes, test key assumptions, and inform investment prioritization and decision-making.
    • Compare modeled expectations with realized investment outcomes and use findings to strengthen future models, assumptions, and investment decisions.
    • Maintain clear documentation of model structures, methodologies, assumptions, inputs, counterfactuals, and data sources.
    • Support the Funds team in defining impact goals and identifying appropriate measures and monitoring approaches for grants and programmatic strategies.
    • Partner with grantees throughout the grant lifecycle to provide modeling and measurement support, offer constructive feedback, strengthen data and impact approaches, and build trusted relationships that support both learning and accountability.

    Data Analysis and Insights

    • Analyze data from grantees, research studies, external datasets, and partner organizations to support modeling, measurement, and evaluation.
    • Develop user-friendly and audience-specific charts, tables, and visualizations that translate modeling and evaluation results into clear insights for grantmaking, portfolio strategy, and advisory engagements.
    • Develop reports, presentations, and other materials that communicate results, lessons, and impact effectively to technical and non-technical internal and external audiences.
    • Support the development and maintenance of public-facing impact dashboards and visualizations.
    • Collaborate with the Funds team, grantees, and external evaluators to understand program design, data availability, key outcomes, and assumptions relevant to impact modeling and measurement.

    Data Management and Systems Support

    • Manage, clean, and maintain the Foundation’s core datasets of grantee impact data, ensuring data are accurate, accessible, organized, reliable, integrated, and usable for analysis.
    • Perform quality checks on datasets, models, and analytical outputs to ensure accuracy, reliability, and reproducibility.
    • Support efforts to standardize data inputs, definitions, and reporting across grantees, research sources, and investments.
    • Support the development and refinement of systems, processes, and measurement approaches for different types of investments, including direct service, innovation, scaling, and systems-level grants.
    • Support the continued development of the Foundation’s impact measurement framework, incorporating appropriate quantitative and qualitative methods and emerging best practices.
    • Leverage AI and state-of-the-art analytical tools and techniques to improve the efficiency, quality, and sophistication of data management, modeling, analysis, and impact measurement.
    • Explore, test, and responsibly adopt emerging technologies and methodologies that can strengthen the Foundation’s analytical capabilities and keep its approach at the forefront of impact modeling and measurement.
    • Assist in implementing, testing, troubleshooting, and continuously improving the tools and systems used to collect, manage, analyze, and report impact data.
    • Document modeling, measurement, data management, and analytical processes to support transparency, consistency, and reproducibility.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Personal Attributes

    • 5+ years of experience in economic modeling, impact analysis, or a related analytical role in a nonprofit, research organization, consulting group, or private-sector firm.
    • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including statistics and econometrics.
    • Experience developing cost-effectiveness, cost-benefit, ROI, or similar economic models strongly preferred.
    • High proficiency in Excel and/or Google Sheets.
    • Proficiency in Tableau or similar data visualization tools, with the ability to translate complex analyses into clear, decision-useful visualizations.
    • Experience with R, Stata, Python, or similar statistical software preferred.
    • Ability to interpret social science and economic research and translate findings into practical assumptions, counterfactuals, and insights.
    • Comfort using Claude, ChatGPT, and other AI-enabled tools for research, coding, analysis, modeling, and documentation, with an interest in emerging AI capabilities.
    • Familiarity with UX/UI principles and designing intuitive analytical tools, dashboards, and outputs is a plus.
    • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex analysis for technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, including with colleagues, grantees, and external partners.
    • Strong attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, collaboration, and alignment with the Foundation’s mission and CREDIT values.

Location: Fully remote. Must be based in the U.S. The GitLab Foundation does not offer visa sponsorship.
