Position Overview
Integrity Matters seeks a Small Business Organizer in Raleigh-Durham, NC, Phoenix, AZ, and San Antonio, TX, to recruit and mobilize small business owners in these areas to participate in election protection and civic engagement efforts in the lead up to the midterm elections, and then more broadly across the country after.
The Organizer will build relationships with business owners, facilitate leadership development, coordinate events, support public storytelling, and help move business leaders into meaningful election protection roles. This position requires a skilled organizer who understands how to build trust, develop leaders, and turn relationships into sustained civic action.
The ideal candidate is excited about working with entrepreneurs and business leaders, comfortable discussing democracy and rule-of-law issues in practical terms, and experienced in grassroots organizing, coalition building, or civic engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Recruit and Build Relationships
- Identify, recruit, and engage at least 100 small business owners in target states through one-on-one outreach, referrals, events, and partner networks who can serve as local validators, spokespeople, and peer recruiters.
- Conduct relational organizing conversations to understand business owners' concerns, motivations, and opportunities for engagement.
- Build and maintain a strong community of prospective and active business leaders.
- Facilitate leadership development opportunities for business owners.
- Support business owners in sharing their personal stories about the importance of stable democratic institutions.
Organize Election Protection Activities
- Recruit business owners into election protection activities, targeting at least 80 actions including poll work, election observation, nonpartisan support for election officials, voter education, and crisis response.
- Coordinate training with election election protection partners.
- Organize local events, happy hours, workshops, learning sessions, and community meetings.
- Help create visible business community support for fair, transparent, and trusted elections.
Support Storytelling and Public Engagement
- Recruit participants for media opportunities, videos, social content, public events, op-eds, and letters to the editor.
- Help business owners communicate effectively about election integrity, democratic norms, and the business impacts of political instability.
- Amplify stories that demonstrate the connection between healthy democratic institutions and economic stability.
Track Progress and Strengthen Programs
- Keep accurate organizing data and updates within CRM (Monday.com) and communicate with Integrity Matters colleagues.
- Track participation, leadership development, and engagement metrics for business owners.
- Provide feedback on organizing strategy and opportunities for growth.
- Contribute to campaign planning, evaluation, and organizational learning.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in community organizing, political organizing, or labor organizing.
- Demonstrated ability to recruit, motivate, and develop volunteer leaders.
- Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience facilitating meetings, trainings, or workshops.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Comfort engaging people with diverse political viewpoints and backgrounds.
- Commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and civic participation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience organizing business owners, entrepreneurs, or professional constituencies.
- Experience with election protection, voter engagement, democracy reform, or civic participation programs.
- Experience working in either NC, AZ or TX
- Familiarity with digital organizing, storytelling, and social media engagement.
Compensation
- Contract offer: $25/hour, up to 25 hours/week
