    Descrição

    CRC seeks a law school graduate or licensed attorney to sponsor as an externally funded Legal Fellow, beginning in Fall 2025. Once selected, CRC will work closely with the candidate to submit project proposals to funding organizations that are able to evaluate fellowship applications on an expedited basis. The fellowship may be for a period of one to two years, depending on the funding secured.

    The Fellow will be a fully integrated member of CRC’s case teams as they litigate ongoing—and incubate new—lawsuits and other legal projects in state and federal courts across the country. The Fellow should expect to be responsible for researching and drafting briefs, appearing in court, investigating and gathering evidence, corresponding with clients and witnesses, collaborating with community organizers and other external partners, and executing other tasks associated with civil rights litigation.

    The position may be based out of Washington, D.C. or fully remote.

    Qualifications

    The ideal CRC Legal Fellow is passionate about racial and social justice, humble, hardworking, a fast learner, proactive, able to juggle multiple tasks, and able to work well in a collaborative environment. Specific qualifications we are looking for include:

    • By Fall 2025, a J.D. degree and the ability to be admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia.
    • Demonstrated commitment to the mission, purpose, and values of CRC.
    • Race and identity competency, ability to understand and navigate issues of identity, power, and privilege with clients, partners and colleagues;
    • Excellent writing, research, and complex legal analysis skills;
    • Excellent communication and public speaking skills;
    • Experience working with diverse populations, with those directly impacted by the criminal legal and family policing systems, and on behalf of low-income clients;
    • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, establish priorities, and work independently with minimal supervision;
    • Innovative thinking, an unwillingness to accept things as they are, and a strong work ethic.

    Salary and Benefits

    This is a full-time exempt position. Civil Rights Corps will supplement the amount of any fellowship stipend so that the Fellow would receive a total salary of no less than $80,000-$88,000 depending on experience.

    The Fellow would also receive benefits provided to all Civil Rights Corps employees including employer-paid health, vision, and dental benefits; transit benefits for in-person employees; and paid sick, family, and unlimited vacation leave. This position is included within United Civil Rights Workers, the CRC workers’ union, which is affiliated with the Washington-Baltimore News Guild. The position is term limited based on the duration of the fellowship sponsorship the Fellow is able to procure. CRC cannot guarantee employment beyond the termination of the sponsorship.

    Application Requirements

    To apply, please submit (1) a cover letter; (2) a resume; (3) an unofficial law school transcript; (4) a writing sample; and (5) three professional references. Given the accelerated timeline, we are reviewing applications on a rolling basis and will give priority to those submitted by July 21, 2025. Materials should be addressed to jobs@civilrightscorps.org. Please include your name and “Legal Fellowship (Fall 2025)” in the subject line.

    Civil Rights Corps is an equal opportunity employer. We greatly value a diverse workforce and management team and an inclusive culture. Civil Rights Corps is committed to promoting an environment free of barriers and discriminatory practices for its clients and staff.
