General Job Description:
Performs all professional work involved in the overall management of a small historic house and site, including day-to-day operations, administrative duties, programmatic implementation and ongoing interpretation as well as assists with development initiatives and genealogical research. Position reports to the President of the Board.
Duties include, but are not limited, to the following:
Site Management/Curatorial
Ensure preservation of the historic house, collections and grounds through routine cleaning and maintenance of the house museum and office, care of the collections and physical plant; notify BAA officers of conditions that require attention.
Serve as liaison to carriage house tenant
Direct contracted labor in care of the property
Assist with Chester County Historical Society's annual inventory of collection.
Administrative
Maintain accurate records related to the BAA, the 1704 House and the historic site
Maintain Genealogy Station; record, copy and forward genealogical submissions; provide instructions to visitors.
Assist Board President with materials related to Board meetings and communications; assist Board Secretary in taking and distributing Board meeting minutes; provide information and documents in support of Board initiatives
Coordinate with webmaster to maintain website and social media (Facebook/Twitter/ Blog)
Respond to and/or refer mail, email and phone communications
Coordinate with Board Treasurer in monitoring and providing receipts for annual expenses and income for all services, programs and initiatives (i.e., contracted labor, apartment rent, dues, donations, admissions, sale of BAA memorabilia)
Maintain petty cash
Compose letters of appreciation for Board President's signature
Development
Prepare and mail/email semiannual newsletter, membership renewals and Annual Appeal
Maintain membership database
Assist Board with development initiatives including events, grant writing and general fundraising Programmatic/Interpretation
Provide scheduled and on-request tours of the 1704 House
Train house guides; coordinate schedule and activities of house guides and other Site/BAA volunteers
Serve as House, Site and BAA representative to the broader community in the development of partnerships with other institutions and organizations (for profit and nonprofit)
Compensation
Part-time, salaried position, at will of Board of Directors, not to exceed an average of 12 hours per week, $20 per hour. Checks issued monthly. Must be available in-person Saturdays and Sundays, May through October when the museum is open to the public.
