    Position Overview

    The Civic Engagement Organizer is part of the Policy Department, focused on community organizing and voter engagement work through an integrated advocacy format and works closely with all departments across the ACLU-NJ. The ideal candidate will support the work to increase civic participation and advance ACLUNJ's goals through diverse organizing and community engagement tactics and lead ACLU-NJ's volunteer development and management work. This position reports to the Associate Director of Civic Engagement.

    Essential Duties

    • Work closely with the Associate Director of Civic Engagement to implement ACLU-NJ's organizing and electoral engagement program.
    • Drive community organizing, voter engagement and mobilization tactics to advance ACLU-NJ's goals and priority issue advocacy campaigns.
    • Execute volunteer recruitment, management and leadership development efforts, aimed toward cultivating volunteer leaders, and driving political/advocacy action.
    • Coordinate and implement skills-building training programs for volunteers and organizational partners in support of voter outreach efforts, including Get Out the Vote (GOTV) and other electoral efforts.
    • Work collaboratively with coalition partners and develop strategic partnerships with community groups, local leaders, and advocacy organizations across New Jersey.
    • Support the development of community outreach and education materials
    • Engage in special projects and other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Three years of experience in community organizing, political or civic engagement campaigns or issue-based advocacy campaigns. Grassroots or field organizing experience, including voter education and Get Out the Vote (GOTV) efforts preferred.
    • Volunteer recruitment and management experience.
    • Knowledge and experience utilizing digital technology and databases, including the Voter Activation Network (VAN), and voter engagement tools and peer-to-peer texting platforms (miniVan, ThruTalk, ThruText, etc).
    • Experience executing campaign plans and tactics.
    • A history of working collaboratively and successfully with people and organizations from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds and a broad range of ideological positions and religious views.
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills and strong written and oral communications skills.
    • Detail-oriented with strong follow-through and the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
    • Willingness and ability to travel in New Jersey and flexibility to work weekend and evening hours when necessary.

    • A commitment to advancing ACLU- NJ values, mission, and campaign goals.

    Compensation

    Salary for this role is $60,000-70,000 and is commensurate with experience. The ACLU-NJ supports and plans for staff member professional growth and skill development through internal and external opportunities. We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package which currently includes 30 days paid time off, 12 office holidays and 16 health care leave days; medical, vision, and dental insurance; 20 weeks (100 days) paid family leave; life and long-term disability insurance; pre-tax transit benefits; and a 401(k) plan with employer match. This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
