About This Organization
The Bronx is Blooming is a Bronx-based environmental nonprofit dedicated to growing and supporting a culture of environmental stewardship across the borough. Through youth leadership, environmental education, community engagement, and hands-on restoration in local parks and green spaces, we provide Bronx residents—especially youth—with experiences to connect with nature, develop leadership skills, and build healthier, greener communities.
Position Summary
The Education and Outreach Manager (EOM) leads The Bronx is Blooming's environmental education and community outreach initiatives, connecting Bronx youth and residents with programs that inspire environmental stewardship, youth leadership, and community action.
This position is responsible for maintaining and strengthening existing education and outreach programs while leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of new programming that advances the organization's mission and strategic goals. Working closely with schools, community organizations, volunteers, and public partners, the EOM will expand opportunities for Bronx residents to engage with nature, deepen environmental awareness, and become active stewards of their communities.
The EOM serves as a collaborative leader who builds meaningful partnerships, oversees educational programming, manages staff and volunteers, and helps increase awareness of The Bronx is Blooming's work throughout the borough.
Key Responsibilities
Environmental Education & Program Leadership
- Lead, manage, and continuously improve the organization's environmental education and outreach programming.
- Maintain and strengthen existing school and community partnerships while identifying opportunities to develop new mission-aligned programs.
- Design and implement engaging curriculum, workshops, presentations, and educational materials for youth, volunteers, schools, community organization and other organizational partners.
- Plan and facilitate educational events, stewardship activities, volunteer experiences, and public programs.
- Evaluate program effectiveness using participant feedback and outcome data to improve program quality and impact.
Community Outreach & Partnership Development
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with schools, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and community partners throughout the Bronx.
- Represent The Bronx is Blooming at community meetings, environmental events, fairs, and outreach opportunities.
- Recruit and engage volunteers in support of environmental stewardship, youth leadership, and community programming.
- Serve as an ambassador for the organization's mission and values within the community.
Communications, Evaluation & Grant Support
- Collaborate on newsletters, social media, promotional materials, and outreach campaigns that increase awareness of organizational programs and impact.
- Track participation, program outcomes, and grant deliverables using organizational data systems.
- Support grant reporting and program evaluation by collecting and analyzing program data.
- Develop marketing materials, including brochures and outreach resources that effectively communicate environmental education opportunities to diverse age groups and programs.
Program Administration
- Manage program logistics, scheduling, budgets, supplies, and event coordination.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure successful planning and implementation of programs and events.
- Maintain organized records and documentation to support organizational reporting and continuous improvement.
Supervision
- Hire, train, supervise, and mentor Program Coordinators, Assistants, Interns and Americorps Participants
- Support youth leadership programming through supervision of teams on weekends, at outreach and education events and in community programming
- Ensure compliance with all organizational and partner reporting requirements and performance expectations.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and mission-driven team culture.
Qualifications
Required
- Master's degree in Environmental Science, Education, Communications, or a related field and 1–3 years of relevant work experience; or A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Education, Communications, or a related field and 3–5 years of relevant work experience.
- Experience in environmental education, youth development, community engagement, volunteer coordination, partnership development, or program management.
- Excellent public speaking, facilitation, and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace, Slack, WhatsApp, Canva, and other digital collaboration tools.
- Demonstrated commitment to environmental justice, youth development, community-centered work.
Preferred
- Experience working in a nonprofit organization.
- Knowledge of Bronx environmental justice issues, urban forestry, and local ecosystems.
- Experience with curriculum development, informal environmental education and experiential education models
- Familiarity with Airtable or similar database systems.
- Knowledge of Bronx-based environmental justice organizations and community networks.
- Spanish language proficiency.

Working Conditions
- Combination of office, field, and community-based work.
- Primarily based in the Bronx with occasional travel throughout New York City.
