    Community Organizer

    Job Title: Organizer

    Classification: Full Time, Non-Exempt

    Supervisor: General Director

    Position Summary

    The Farmworker Association of Florida (FWAF) is seeking a full-time Organizer to support grassroots organizing efforts across FWAF’s program areas. This position advances FWAF’s mission by building community power among farmworkers and low-income rural and immigrant communities through outreach, membership development, leadership development, and participation in campaigns that advance social, environmental, labor, and climate justice. The Organizer focuses on direct community engagement, base-building, and campaign support. This position works closely with the General Coordinator, Program Coordinators, and staff.

    Key Responsibilities

    Community Organizing & Membership Development

    • Conduct outreach and base-building among farmworkers and low-income rural and immigrant communities.
    • Recruit, engage, and retain members in educational, cultural, civic, and advocacy activities.
    • Support and participate in leadership meetings and community organizing spaces.
    • Organize and support at least one community action, training, or public activity per month.
    • Maintain accurate outreach, membership, and activity records and submit regular reports.

    Campaign Support & Implementation

    • Support implementation of FWAF’s campaigns and programmatic priorities at the local level.
    • Engage community members in advocacy efforts, actions, and public testimony.
    • Assist in coordinating campaign activities, outreach efforts, and mobilizations.
    • Participate in campaign planning and strategy discussions with staff as well as research projects when assigned

    Education & Leadership Development

    • Support facilitation of trainings on immigration rights, workplace health and safety, workers’ rights, civic engagement, agroecology, and related topics.
    • Assist in developing leadership among members and strengthening community participation.
    • Encourage and support member involvement in organizing and advocacy spaces.

    Community Engagement & Collaboration

    • Build and maintain relationships with community members and local partners.
    • Collaborate with General Coordinator and Program Coordinators to align organizing efforts with FWAF’s statewide strategy.
    • Represent FWAF at community events, meetings, and outreach activities.
    • Assist community members with Food Stamps and Medicaid applications.

    Organizational Support

    • Assist with volunteer engagement, community events, and organizational activities.
    • Support program implementation as needed across FWAF initiatives.
    • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and organizational planning spaces.

    Qualifications

    • Demonstrated commitment to racial, social, environmental, labor, immigrant, and climate justice.
    • Experience in grassroots, labor, or community organizing preferred.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to engage and build relationships with diverse ethnic and cultural communities.
    • Ability to organize and facilitate small group meetings or activities.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
    • Willingness to learn and grow within a grassroots organizing model.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Zoom, and digital communication tools.
    • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel locally.
    • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
    • Bilingual (oral and written) in Spanish or another language preferred.

    Compensation & Benefits

      • Hourly rate: $17–$20 per hour

    Work Environment & Physical Requirements

    This is a full-time, in-person position based in one of FWAF’s regional offices. The role requires frequent community outreach, including walking for extended periods, and regular interaction in outdoor environments with possible exposure to extreme weather conditions. The position requires frequent local travel and occasional statewide travel, as well as a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends to attend community events and activities.
