    Position: Director of Major Gifts

    Reports to: Co-CEO

    Status: Full-time, exempt

    Summary:

    At Evergreen Habitat for Humanity, we believe in a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. Through volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner. Habitat houses are sold to families at no profit, financed with affordable loans, building strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.

    Evergreen Habitat is seeking a strategic, relationship-drive fundraising professional to serve as our Director of Major Gifts. This is a key leadership role responsible for building and growing a portfolio of major donors who are passionate about expanding access to affordable homeownership across Southwest Washington. This role is part of the senior leadership team and plays a key role in shaping organizational vision, guiding strategy, and supporting high-level decision-making for the organization.

    The Director of Major Gifts will design and execute a comprehensive strategy to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individuals and families capable of making transformative investments in our mission. The ideal candidate is highly relational, goal-oriented, and energized by connecting donors to meaningful impact.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

      • Develop and manage a portfolio of 150–200+ major donors and high-capacity prospects.
      • Develop and implement individualized cultivation and solicitation strategies.
      • Conduct regular in-person meetings, calls, and written communications to build relationships and increase giving.
      • Conduct regular in-person visits, calls, and written outreach to deepen engagement and increase philanthropic support.
      • Personally cultivate, solicit, and steward major gifts ranging from $5,000 to transformational, multi-million-dollar commitments in support of Evergreen Habitat’s mission.
      • Partner with executive leadership and program staff to align donor interests with organizational priorities.
      • Create compelling proposals, impact reports, and donor communications in collaboration with Development and Marketing.
      • Ensure exceptional stewardship through personalized follow-up, recognition, and ongoing engagement.
      • Track donor activity and portfolio performance using donor management software.
      • Contribute to campaign strategy, messaging, and donor engagement initiatives.
      • Represent Evergreen Habitat in the community and at events.
      • Monitor major gift trends and implement best practices to strengthen performance.
      • Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support organizational priorities.

    Required Skills and Competencies:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, Communications, or related field (or equivalent experience) preferred.
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with demonstrated success in major gift solicitation.
    • Proven ability to build authentic, long-term donor relationships.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including one-on-one donor conversations and presentations.
    • Experience managing a donor portfolio within CRM systems (e.g., Blackbaud, Salesforce, Bloomerang).
    • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.
    • Self-motivated and results-driven with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
    • Knowledge of planned giving, capital campaigns, and stewardship best practices is a plus.
    • Passion for Habitat for Humanity’s mission and a commitment to advancing affordable housing solutions.

    General Work Schedule:

      • Full-time, 40 hours per week
      • Standard hours: 9am–5pm Monday–Friday
      • Flexible work schedule including hybrid work from home opportunities
      • Occasional early morning, evening, and weekends are required for donor meetings and events

    Work Environment and Physical Demands:

      • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position for long periods while operating a computer to create documents, conducting research, sending and receiving e-mail and participating in meetings; communicating on a telephone and in person; reading and writing; applying logic and focusing attention in the presence of distractions. Occasional requirements are to move about the office to access file cabinets, office equipment, etc. Must be able to lift 25-50 lbs. Evening and weekend work may be required.

    Salary and Benefits:

    Salary: $83,000 Annually
