    Summary:

    • The Family Justice Centers (FJCs) are an initiative of the Mayor’s Office to Combat Domestic Violence to reduce barriers faced by domestic violence victims who are seeking help. Safe Horizon is co-located at the FJCs and partners with the Mayor’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office and other civil legal and community-based organizations to provide a safe and welcoming place for victims to receive various services. Safe Horizon staff at the FJC provides crisis intervention, case management services, advocacy, information and referrals, and practical assistance to survivors, providing client-centered safety assessments and risk management plans.

    Essential Job Functions:

    • The Client Services Specialist Senior Case Manager will interview all new clients who access the Family Justice Center and address their immediate needs. Client Services Specialist’s provide comprehensive services to individual clients and families impacted by intimate partner violence, including victims and survivors of elder abuse and trafficking. Services provided may include assessment, case planning, case facilitation, referrals and information. The Client Services Specialists coordinates with Safe Horizon programs, FJC service providers and local agencies to provide short and long term care necessary to meet the needs of victims of violence.

    The Client Services Specialists' responsibilities may include some or all of the following:

    • Interview clients to assess presenting needs, including cultural, linguistic, service, legal, practical and safety-related needs;
    • Determine appropriate referrals to on-site partners including civil legal and law enforcement personnel;
    • Maintain schedule of appointments for staff and on-site partners;
    • Oversee volunteers to escort victims to onsite providers;
    • Schedule appointments for clients with on-site partners;
    • Provide daily accurate data collection and reporting to the FJC Administrative staff;
    • Assess each client’s need for legal services;
    • Provide case services and crisis intervention;
    • Provide assistance in navigating the criminal and family court systems;
    • Conduct client-centered assessments and help clients prepare risk management plans;
    • Provide advocacy with criminal, housing, public benefits, and other systems;
    • Participate in staff and partner meetings;
    • Attend all relevant trainings;
    • Communicate clients' needs and expectations with Family Justice Center advocates;
    • Provide back-up coverage to front line staff, as well as lobby coverage; as needed;
    • Maintain cooperative working relationships with Family Justice Center administration staff and civil legal and social service providers and;
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    • NYCHA staff
    • New York County social, legal and medical service providers
    • Other Safe Horizon staff

    Knowledge and Skills:

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s Degree

    Required:

    • Able to generate own tasks and develop creative solutions to problems;
    • Sensitivity towards and understanding of victimization, especially the experience of survivors of domestic violence;
    • Strong communication and organizational skills;
    • Excellent interpersonal skills – must have the ability to be assertive;
    • Must be well organized;
    • Ability to work under pressure in a calm and reassuring manner;
    • Must demonstrate the ability to work independently

    Qualifications and Skills:

    • At least two years of prior direct service experience in a social service setting is required, or a minimum of one year of direct service at Safe Horizon
    • Experience working with survivors of domestic violence
    • Experience with the criminal or civil justice system
    • Possess leadership skills, excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and collaboratively
    • Knowledge of Microsoft windows is required
    • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred
