NY Renews is seeking a proactive, creative, and self-directed communications professional to run the coalition’s social media and email platforms. We’re looking for a sharp writer with a good eye for graphic design and solid social media skills who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The person in this role must be a team player who can work collaboratively with coalition staff, leadership, and dozens of NY Renews member organization representatives. Candidates must demonstrate at least four years of strong social media, email, and digital communications skills, with experience in advocacy preferred.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Email Management
- Oversee coalition email calendar; schedule, draft, format, and send out email blasts
- Maintain NY Renews' email database, ensuring our list is clean and up-to-date
- Draft weekly coalition-wide roundup email
- Draft coalition-wide newsletter
Digital Organizing, Tech, and Tools
- Manage the back end of key digital tools, including Solidarity Tech, Zoom events and webinars, 1-click email activation tools, and more
- Run or oversee peer-to-peer texting program to support coalition and member campaigns
- Support digital outreach for organizing efforts, including creating and disseminating event pages and social media outreach toolbox kits
- Prepare digital actions to support coalition and member campaigns, including call/email/tweet/contact your representative tools
- Maintain the NY Renews website to ensure it's up-to-date and action-oriented
- Note: The person in this role must be comfortable troubleshooting technology.
Social Media Management
- Manage NY Renews' social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Bluesky, TikTok, and YouTube)
- Create weekly social media content, including reels and graphics
- Create social media toolkits (including graphics) to support digital actions, in-person mobilizations, and member activities
- Run social media actions such as Instagram Lives, tweet chats/tweetstorms
- Uplift coalition members' and partners’ work on social media
Communications Strategy
- Co-develop digital campaign strategy with the Deputy Director
- Create systems to track digital organizing relationships and capacity within the coalition
- Join and run the Organizing and Comms Committee meetings along with the Coalition Organizer, with support from the Deputy Director
- Regularly lead communications projects with coalition partners, including media trainings
- Support the development team in creating digital fundraising and outreach materials
- Help oversee the digital and communications fellows
- Support general communications needs as campaign demands
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 4 years of experience in digital organizing, social media, or digital communications or equivalent
- Prior experience working with digital organizing platforms that move supporters to take action, for example, Solidarity Tech, Action Network/Nation Builder, NewMode/Phone2Action, Hustle/Relay/Spoke or equivalent
- Prior experience managing organizational social media accounts or equivalent
- Graphic design skills (Canva is OK) and familiarity with best practices for creating social media content or equivalent
- Experience creating Instagram reels and TikTok clips
- Able to travel to Albany/Capital District for periodic meetings and events
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working in climate, racial, economic, or social justice
- Knowledge of New York State political landscape and communities
- Bilingual English and Spanish is a plus (staff working bilingually will receive additional compensation)
- Digital experience in a campaign setting

MANAGEMENT
The Digital and Communications Manager will report directly to the Deputy Director. They will work closely with the Coalition Organizer and digital and communications staff at our member organizations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This is a remote position, but regular in-person meetings in New York City or Albany are required. The person in this role will be expected to travel within New York State up to 15% of the time. NY Renews full-time staff work an average of 40 or more hours/week, with some critical campaign weeks requiring more work and some slower weeks requiring less. Candidates located in New York State are strongly preferred.

NY Renews is a coalition of almost 400 environmental, justice, faith, labor, and community groups, and the force behind New York’s climate law, the Climate Leadership and Community Preservation Act (CLCPA).
NY Renews is governed by a Steering Committee of representatives from environmental justice, community organizing, labor, youth, faith, and climate organizations across New York State. The Steering Committee sets the strategic direction for the NY Renews coalition. We operate in accordance with the Jemez Principles of democratic organizing and are committed to collective decision-making and leadership of frontline communities. NY Renews staff are directed by the Executive Director and Steering Committee.
The NY Renews coalition comprises two legal entities: NY Renews, a 501 (c)(4) project hosted at the Working Families Organization; and the NY Renews Resource Center, a project of the State Democracy Project, a 501(c)(3).

This is a full-time, exempt, salaried, and remote position. The salary range for this position is $70K to $90, with the final salary offer based on our pay equity formula, which includes factors such as: working bilingually, location factors, difficulty of the position to fill, seniority before hire, and relevant education, certification, training, or organizing experience. NY Renews provides employees with 100% health and dental insurance and 80% of costs for family coverage, along with generous paid time off, family leave, a holiday package for staff over 30 hours/week, and phone/internet reimbursement.
