    Organizing Director Job Description

    Background: Virginians for Reproductive Freedom (VRF) is a broad coalition of advocacy organizations, community leaders, and concerned citizens working together to protect access to reproductive healthcare in the Commonwealth. VRF seeks an Organizing Director to lead statewide field and organizing programs in support of a Constitutional Amendment to protect reproductive freedom in Virginia.

    This race will be one of the most important and exciting ballot measures in the country in the 2025-2026 cycle, with the potential to make an enormous and lasting impact. A win on this ballot initiative means protecting a broad range of reproductive freedoms from future government interference and securing rights for Virginians for generations to come.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Strategic Planning:
      • Develop comprehensive field and organizing plans, including clear goals, timelines, and metrics for success both for the qualification and voter communication phases.
      • Collaborate closely with the campaign leadership to establish effective strategies for grassroots organizing and community outreach.
    • Grassroots Mobilization:
      • Develop and implement effective grassroots mobilization strategies to engage community members, activists, and leaders.
      • Organize and lead community events, rallies, town hall meetings, and other public gatherings to build visibility and public support.
      • Build relationships with partner organizations, advocacy groups, and community leaders to maximize collective impact.
    • Coalition Management:
      • Collaborate with coalition members to develop joint strategies, coordinate actions, and leverage collective resources.
      • Facilitate regular communication to keep coalition members informed, engaged, and working toward shared goals.
      • Collaborate with Organizing Chairs to support and facilitate the Organizing Committee.
      • Operationalize organizing frameworks that prioritize physical, emotional, and digital safety of staff, volunteers, and community members
    • Volunteer Management:
      • Recruit, train, and manage a network of volunteers to support campaign activities.
      • Provide clear guidance, ongoing support, and motivation to ensure volunteer success and retention.
      • Maintain consistent communication and foster a strong sense of community among volunteers.
      • Recruit a speakers bureau of storytellers.
    • Data Analysis and Reporting:
      • Collect, analyze, and evaluate data related to organizing efforts and volunteer engagement.
      • Prepare reports detailing the impact of organizing activities, including progress achieved, challenges faced, and recommendations for improvement.
      • Utilize data to inform future decision-making and optimize outreach strategies.

    Qualifications:

    • At least 4 years or 4 campaign cycles of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified, including 2+ years of management experience.
    • Collaborative spirit, a willingness and ability to work with a team to reach goals together
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
    • Detail-oriented, with exceptional organizational and project management skills.
    • Proficient in utilizing organizing and communication software, including CRM systems and digital organizing tools.
    • Strong knowledge of Virginia’s political landscape and existing relationships with local and statewide reproductive health, rights and justice organizations preferred.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in collaborating within coalitions preferred.
    • Experience working with ballot initiatives preferred.

    Important Details:

    • This role can be based anywhere in Virginia and will require frequent travel consistent with a campaign schedule.
    • The start date will be December 1 or as soon as practical for both parties. This position will run through November 2026.
    • Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience with a $7,000 - $9,000 monthly salary range.
