POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director of Communications & Marketing is a dynamic, mission-driven leader responsible for shaping and amplifying ECSC's public presence and member recruitment goals. This role blends strategic vision with hands-on creative execution; overseeing everything from brand management and media relations to social media, storytelling, and fundraising campaigns. The Director ensures that all communications authentically reflect the organization's identity, engage diverse audiences, and advance its mission.
This position requires a versatile communicator who is equally comfortable crafting a compelling donor email, producing an engaging video, designing a social graphic, and pitching a story to local media. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced nonprofit environment and brings both creative talent and strategic discipline to their work.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Marketing Strategy:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive, integrated marketing strategy aligned with ECSC's mission, programs, and annual goals.
- Identify target audiences, set measurable objectives, and track performance metrics across all channels.
- Collaborate with leadership to align communications with organizational priorities, recruitment and fundraising campaigns.
Email Marketing & Donor Communications:
- Manage all organizational email communications, including newsletters, donor updates, and impact reports through ECSC’s CRM, NEON LLC.
- Design and maintain automated email campaigns to engage supporters, acknowledge gifts, and nurture donor relationships.
- Personalize messaging to improve open rates, engagement, and donor retention.
Social Media Management:
- Develop and execute a strategic social media plan across platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) to grow audience engagement and raise organizational awareness.
- Create, curate, and schedule content that is timely, on-brand, and mission-aligned.
- Monitor analytics and community engagement, adjusting strategy based on performance data.
Event Coordination & Community Engagement:
- Plan and execute community events, presentations, workshops, and awareness campaigns that promote ECSC's mission and programs; This includes assisting the ECSC Team with the planning and execution of the annual ECSC Gala & Fundraiser
- Lead communications and logistics for fundraising events, community gatherings, and awareness initiatives from concept through post-event follow-up.
- Coordinate with internal teams, volunteers, vendors, and community partners to ensure successful event delivery.
Video Production & Storytelling:
- Craft and communicate ECSC's narrative to build emotional connections with supporters, donors, and the broader community.
- Produce narrative-driven videos; including planning, filming, editing, and publishing to engage audiences and convey organizational mission.
- Identify and capture compelling stories of impact from clients, volunteers, and community members.
Brand Management:
- Serve as the organizational brand steward, ensuring all marketing materials, communications, and public-facing content are visually and tonally consistent with ECSC's identity.
- Develop and maintain brand guidelines and ensure organization-wide adherence across departments and programs.
- Review and approve materials created internally and by external partners for brand alignment.
Graphic Design:
- Design compelling visual content for print and digital channels, including social graphics, event materials, brochures, flyers, annual reports, and campaign assets.
- Utilize Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) to produce professional-quality design work.
- Maintain an organized library of design assets, templates, and brand resources for organizational use.
Content Creation & Copywriting:
- Manage, update and maintain the ECSC website
- Write and edit high-quality content across platforms, including ECSC website, blog posts, newsletters, campaign copy, program descriptions, and donor appeals.
- Ensure all written content reflects ECSC's voice, values, and messaging priorities.
- Maintain an editorial calendar to plan, coordinate, and publish content consistently throughout the year.
Public Relations & Media Outreach:
- Manage ECSC's media relations, including writing and distributing press releases, pitching stories to local and regional outlets, and responding to media inquiries.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with journalists, community partners, and public stakeholders.
- Help shape and protect the public perception of the organization through proactive and responsive communications strategies.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience in communications, marketing, or a related role, preferably within a nonprofit or mission-driven organization
- Demonstrated experience managing social media platforms and email marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact, CRM’s)
- Proficiency in graphic design tools, particularly Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with a keen attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and work independently and within a team environment
- Experience with video production, including filming, editing, and distribution
Preferred:
- Early Childhood or Volunteer Organization Experience
- Experience with nonprofit fundraising communications and donor relations
- Familiarity with website content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Squarespace)
- Knowledge of basic analytics tools (Google Analytics, Meta Insights, etc.)
- Experience in community event planning and execution

Reports To: Executive Director
Employment Type: Part-time (up to 30 hours a week) / Exempt
Pay Rate: $25-$35 an hour / Benefits: Health Insurance Stipend & 104K option
