OVERVIEW:

Greenlight America is the leading grassroots campaign force powering the nation’s clean energy transition at the local level. Founded in 2023, we educate, empower, and mobilize volunteers to make their voices heard and win permitting approvals for clean energy projects in their communities. In the past two years we have advanced roughly 15 gigawatts of clean power to the grid, approximately 10x the size of the Hoover Dam.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

This is a junior Data Engineering role. The Data Engineer I will support Greenlight’s core data products in Retool and Vercel. This role sits at the intersection of product strategy, data engineering and infrastructure, and quality assurance. The Data Engineer I will ensure that data on clean energy projects, local jurisdictions, and decision makers is reliable, connected, and actionable. They will also collaborate with the Research, Partnerships, Communications, and Campaigns teams to ensure our data products advance organizational priorities and ensure cross-organization efficiency. A successful candidate is someone who is eager to learn, likes working collaboratively, is willing to take risks and is able to build out data products without detailed guidance. This position is remote and reports to the Data Engineer, Senior Manager.

PRIMARY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensure quality assurance with rigorous testing procedures for Greenlight’s core data products in Retool and Vercel to ensure data reliability and application performance.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and implement UI/UX updates and technical fixes for teams across Greenlight, including Research, Partnerships, Communications, and Campaigns
• Assist the Data Engineers in monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting existing data pipelines and database connections.
• Own data engineering projects, including extracting and structuring data from public or proprietary sources for specific campaign needs.
• Gather feedback on user experience and assist in translating strategic needs into product testing requirements.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• At least 1 - 2 years of experience working in data, with a preference for experience in issue advocacy or political campaigns.
• Strong technical communication skills and attention to detail, including experience producing technical documentation.
• Good working knowledge of Python, SQL, Git, dbt and the ability to learn and apply new data tools and techniques efficiently.
• Experience with cloud-based orchestration and containerization tools is a plus.
• Experience working collaboratively with non-technical stakeholders.
• Has an orientation toward rapid prototyping and iteration.
• Ability to think creatively, be curious, take risks, and objectively evaluate results.
• Someone who has an eye for detail.
• Passion for accelerating the clean energy transition.

Placement within the stated salary range will be determined based on the candidate’s years of relevant professional experience.
