Community & Children’s Engagement Manager

Purpose

The Community & Children’s Engagement Manager cultivates an engaged and thriving Village (supportive housing community) by mobilizing volunteers and advocating for the needs of youth residents. This position serves as the bridge between Everybody’s Place and the greater community and multiplies the organization’s impact by empowering volunteers to lead and own staff roles.

Primary Responsibilities

Volunteer Engagement

• Recruit, onboard, train, and retain volunteers (“Cultivators”)
• Match volunteers to roles based on gifts and interests
• Develop volunteer team leaders to oversee recurring service opportunities
• Coordinate volunteer schedules and communication
• Manage volunteer appreciation and recognition
• Track volunteer hours and impact
• Develop partnerships with church and civic groups, schools, and local businesses
• Coordinate large service days and corporate volunteer events

Children’s Advocacy

Serve as the primary advocate for all children living at the Village by:

• Organizing a team of 6-8 volunteer staff to deploy as advocates for each child and monitor their overall well-being
• Leading case conferences with volunteer advocates to aggregate information on resident children to partner with parents and ensure children’s needs are being met
• Coordinating tutoring, mentoring, and enrichment opportunities
• Building relationships with schools and working with McKinney-Vento liaisons
• Helping coordinate summer programming

Community Building

• Foster a healthy Village culture
• Organize resident events
• Welcome new families and encourage Neighbor engagement
• Build relationships among residents

Required Skills/Abilities

• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Proficiency with Google Workspace and the ability to learn nonprofit software platforms (Bloomerang, HMIS, volunteer management systems, etc.).

• Commitment to treating every neighbor with dignity, respect, and compassion
• Availability to work evenings Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays for resident programming and one Saturday per month for community events; flexible hours available to accommodate evenings worked
• Ability to successfully pass background checks required for working with children and vulnerable populations
• Valid Texas driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel throughout Galveston County

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Nonprofit Management, Psychology, Education, Family Studies, Public Administration, Communications, or related field, OR the equivalent in combined relevant experience
• Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit programming, volunteer management, case management, education, youth development, community engagement, or a related field
• Demonstrated experience recruiting, training, supervising, and retaining volunteers or team members
• Experience coordinating programs, events, or community initiatives involving multiple stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building partnerships with schools, churches, corporations, civic organizations, and community agencies
• Experience working in supportive housing or with families experiencing homelessness, poverty, trauma, or housing instability a plus
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care, strengths-based case management, and community resource coordination
• Outcome-oriented and experience with reporting
• Flexibility in a growing, entrepreneurial nonprofit environment

Compensation

Salary range: $50,000-55,000

Benefits

• Paid time off (PTO): 14 days per calendar year (includes vacation and sick time)
• Paid holidays: New Years Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day
• Mental Health time: 8 hours per month

Work Schedule

Your regular work schedule will primarily be Monday through Friday. Hours are flexible to accommodate evenings worked. Additional hours may be required based on program needs.
