ABOUT THE POSITION

The Digital Coordinator is a key member of the Communication department’s award-winning digital team and will primarily be responsible for day-to-day social copywriting, scheduling and smooth management of our social channels and digital content. They will also play an important role in content planning, cross-departmental collaboration, and audience growth, ensuring that the Innocence Project’s digital presence reflects the urgency, humanity, and impact of our mission.

The Digital Coordinator will have their pulse on news and media relevant to our work as well as our audience’s interests and, along with handling the daily management of our social channels, will assist in developing and creating digital content such as Tiktoks, Instagram Reels, and graphics for exonerations and campaigns, and evergreen moments. They are also accountable for reporting on social performance.

Additionally, the Digital Coordinator will collaborate with the Marketing team to cultivate relationships with influencers, public figures, and partner organizations that expand the reach of the Innocence Project’s storytelling and advocacy efforts.

Along with day-to-day coordination of social media channels, the Digital Coordinator plays a critical role in rapid-response, cross-channel communications during breaking-news moments, assisting with the coordination of messaging across email, development, SMS, website, design, and social platforms to activate audiences and drive action.

This full-time position reports to the Director of Digital Engagement.

The duties of this position require approximately 40 hours of work per week to be performed virtually/in-office. We currently have a hybrid in-office model, with all employees in the office three days per week and the remainder of the week remotely. Wednesday is our organization’s “anchor day” where all staff works in the office. The number of required in-office days is subject to change.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Develop copy and schedule day-to-day social media (including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Threads and SMS)
• Provide ongoing support to a multidisciplinary team that manages digital content, social media, digital advocacy, and digital fundraising
• Engage with the Innocence Project’s social media communities (the comments), monitoring conversations to inform timely responses and strengthen relationships with our audiences
• Liaise with other teams, Innocence Network members, and partner organizations to support joint social media needs
• Facilitate digital projects and processes
• Help collect and report on social media metrics
• Assist with content, client, and policy campaigns as well as programmatic and institutional content and priorities on our digital platforms
• Deepen relationships with existing communities and grow target audiences
• Identify, pitch, and coordinate collaborations with influencers, celebrities, and strategic partners to expand campaign reach and impact using Sprout Social’s Tagger tool
• Explore partnerships with external platforms and organizations to expand the Innocence Project’s capabilities in influencer engagement, SMS marketing, and digital reach
• Provide real-time, rapid-response digital communications support across social, email, development, design, website, and SMS channels during breaking-news moments to amplify impact and mobilize supporters
• In collaboration with the Director of Digital Engagement, and Digital Engagement Specialist - script, produce, and oversee the creation of compelling video content for Instagram and Tiktok that elevates exoneree stories, legal milestones, and advocacy campaigns
• Time permitting and in collaboration with the Director of Digital Engagement and Digital Engagement Specialist, pitch and write, blog posts and editorial content that deepen audience understanding of wrongful conviction, criminal legal system reform, and human-centered storytelling
• In coordination with the Director of Digital Engagement, translate complex legal, policy, and advocacy issues into clear, accessible, and emotionally resonant and compelling digital content
• Monitor emerging platforms, social trends, and algorithm updates to ensure the Innocence Project remains at the forefront of digital advocacy innovation
• Serve as a strategic coordinator and thought partner to the Director of Digital Engagement to execute on digital-first advocacy, fundraising, and storytelling initiatives

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree plus 3 years experience
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• Experience managing social media and writing copy is needed
• Experience working on campaigns, advocacy, and organizing is a plus
• Experience leading audience growth strategies, securing influencer partnerships, and developing campaign content with external collaborators is a plus
• Experience using social media analytics tools (e.g., Sprout Social, native platform insights) to guide content strategy
• Experience producing video content from concept to publication, including scripting and post-production review
• Experience writing and editing long-form editorial and blog content for digital audiences is a plus
• Experience with Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, Twitter, and LinkedIn, ideally for an organization or public figure
• Strong proofreading skills and knowledge of grammar, and commitment to high-quality standards and knowledge of AP Style
• Knowledge of trends and best practices for online campaigning and social media
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

SALARY RANGE

$76,500 - $90,000/year. Salary commensurate with experience.
