    Program Assistant

    About the Organization

    The CA Healthy Nail Salon Collaborative (CHNSC) is a statewide organization whose mission is to mobilize the nail salon workforce to transform the health, safety, and working conditions of the nail salon industry to build a healthy, sustainable, and equitable community. CHNSC educates and builds power in the nail salon community through: leadership development, education and outreach, policy advocacy, civic engagement, narrative change & communications, and research.     Position Overview

    The Program Assistant reports directly to the Civic Engagement Coordinator and works closely with CHNSC organizers and staff at our Garden Grove office. This position supports our civic engagement efforts across Southern California, with a focus on phone banking to promote Get Out the Vote (GOTV) initiatives and raise awareness about issues affecting the nail salon industry.

    Responsibilities

    The following responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed.     • Supports coordination of civic engagement education related to the campaign goals and objectives of the CA Healthy Nail Salon Collaborative. Program responsibilities include member and volunteer recruitment for seasonal canvassing campaigns and in-language education for nail salon health, safety, and rights
    • Supports coordination with local college campuses to organize and implement civic engagement trainings and programs to support educational and policy efforts related to community engagement and education
    • Provide language interpretation and support for Vietnamese-speaking participants during program activities and events.
    • Assist in coordinating Vietnamese canvassers and volunteers in Southern California.
    • Support administrative tasks such as scheduling, note-taking, and data entry.

    Required Qualifications

    • Fluent in Vietnamese – able to fluently speak, read, and write
    • Strong communication skills – both verbal and written, in English and Vietnamese
    • Basic understanding of civic engagement and community organizing – such as voter education, outreach, and mobilization.
    • Experience with administrative tasks, scheduling, note-taking, data entry, and maintaining organized records.
    • Ability to work collaboratively – with staff, volunteers, and community members.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant work experience.

    Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.

    Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail, etc.).

    Ability to perform physical tasks such as stretching, bending, kneeling, twisting, squatting, reaching above or below the shoulders, pushing, grasping, and lifting up to 20 pounds.

    Able to walk, drive, write, stand, and sit for extended periods as needed.

    Work Environment / Physical Demands

    This position is based out of our Garden Grove office and follows a hybrid work schedule (primarily remote with at least once a week in person with more required on a needed basis). The role requires the ability to work at a computer for extended periods, including sitting at a desk and using a keyboard with manual dexterity. Candidates must be able to see and read a computer screen and printed materials, with or without vision aids; speak clearly and be understood in person and over the phone; and hear and comprehend verbal communication, including phone conversations. Candidates must also be able to hold conversations in Vietnamese with community members. The position requires the ability to follow oral and written instructions and occasionally lift objects weighing up to 10 pounds.

    Employment Terms

    This is a full time position. This position is 40 hours per week. This position has an estimated salary range of $58,000 - $63,000. This position is non-exempt.
