    Position Overview

    The Director, Human Resources provides strategic and operational leadership for the organization’s human resources function in support of WFP USA’s mission, values, and commitment to stewardship. Reporting to the Senior Director of Human Resources, this role oversees day-to-day HR operations and supervises an HR Generalist to ensure consistent, compliant, and equitable people practices across the organization. Working closely with the Senior Director, HR, the Director manages core HR functions including employee benefits and retirement plan administration, compensation programs, employee relations, performance management, recruitment, HR systems oversight, policy implementation, and compliance with employment laws and regulations. The Director also interacts with and supports other senior leadership including the COO/CFO and CEO.

    Highlighted Responsibilities:

    HR Leadership & Team Management

    • Provide day-to-day leadership, supervision, and professional development support to the HR Generalist
    • Assign, review, and oversee HR operational work to ensure accuracy, consistency, compliance and accountability
    • Foster a collaborative, inclusive and service-oriented HR function that supports staff, managers, and leadership

    Benefits, Retirement & Compensation Administration

    • Lead the administration, communication, and governance of all organization sponsored benefit programs, including health, welfare, and retirement plans
    • Serve as the primary HR lead for retirement and deferred compensation plans, including coordination of annual data submissions, compliance reporting, and vendor communications
    • Oversee annual benefits renewals, open enrollment processes, invoice reconciliation, and COBRA administration
    • Manage and administer compensation programs, including salary structures, equity reviews, and offer recommendations, in partnership with the Senior Director, HR and Finance
    • Support compensation benchmarking and internal pay alignment to ensure fairness, competitiveness, and fiscal stewardship
    • Respond to and resolve employee benefits and compensation inquiries with professionalism and discretion

    HRIS Oversight & Data Integrity

    • Oversee the organization’s HRIS (Paycom), ensuring accurate data management across employee records, benefits, compensation, recruitment, and performance modules
    • Ensure HRIS processes support compliance, reporting, and operational efficiency
    • Partner with Finance and leadership to ensure HR data integrity and alignment across systems

    Employee Relations & Performance Management

    • Partner with senior management to provide guidance, coaching, and resolution on employee relations matters, including performance concerns, discipline, grievances, absenteeism, and conflict resolution
    • Oversee performance evaluation and management processes, ensuring consistency, clarity, and alignment with organizational values
    • Promote inclusive, equitable, respectful, and mission aligned application of HR policies and practices

    Recruitment, Onboarding & Offboarding

    • Manage and oversee recruitment consultant and processes in collaboration with hiring managers, ensuring equitable and inclusive hiring practices and to promote and support a diverse workforce
    • Oversee onboarding and offboarding processes, including preparation of offer letters, and separation documentation
    • Ensure a positive and consistent employee experience throughout the employment lifecycle

    Compliance, Policy & Stewardship

    • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
    • Monitor changes in employment, benefits, and compensation legislation and advise Senior Director, HR on required actions
    • Annually review, update, and implement the organization’s employee handbook and HR policies
    • Maintain accurate HR documentation and records to support audits, filings, and external reviews

    Qualifications:

    A well-qualified candidate will possess the following:

    • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field or equivalent professional experience
    • At least ten (10) years of demonstrated HR experience across core HR functions, including benefits, compensation, employee relations, recruitment, and compliance
    • At least four (4) years’ experience supervising or leading HR staff
    • Strong working knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
    • Sound judgment, strong problem-solving skills, and high attention to detail
    • Client centric, service-oriented HR philosophy with a high level of professionalism and discretion
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    Preferred

    • SHRMCP, SHRMSCP, SPHR, or similar professional certification
    • Experience in a nonprofit or mission driven organization
    • Experience working closely with senior leadership and finance partners

    Salary Range: $129,900 – $134,900
