ABOUT US
Lawyers for Good Government (L4GG)’s mission is to mobilize lawyers to ensure that all levels of government — federal, state, and local— promote equal justice under the law and uphold civil and human rights, including the right to health and the right to live in a healthy environment.
L4GG is a community of 125,000 lawyers, law students, and activists fighting to protect equal rights, ensure equal justice, and create equal opportunities for every person. We identify where lawyers can make the greatest impact and mobilize them to defend democracy and the rule of law, protect civil and human rights, and advance environmental justice for all Americans.
In the absence of federal leadership on climate issues, L4GG’s Climate Change and Environmental Justice Program tackles the causes and effects of climate change by providing legal resources and services to states, local governments, NGOs, and frontline communities to expedite the country’s just transition to a green economy and to directly address environmental racism.
To meet its mission, L4GG is in pursuit of three goals:
Over the past two years, the CCEJ Program has become a key technical assistance provider and thought leader to federal, state, and local leaders, nonprofit partners and frontline communities to help expedite a just transition to a green economy. L4GG provided legal guidance to more than 700 municipalities and local governments, directly assisted 24 state governments implementing climate and equity policies representing 54% of the U.S. population and 57% of the economy. L4GG is also a thought partner with and TA provider to green financing entities across the country, supporting cutting-edge clean energy projects.
