    Are you looking for a summer job that doesn’t keep you at a desk? If you like to be outdoors and enjoy working with your hands, we may have the job for you. The Facilities Associate is an essential team member that supports daily campus operations of our 35-acre living history village. In this capacity, the Associate works for the Facilities Officer to address ongoing maintenance on the grounds and infrastructure systems.

    Historic Richmond Town’s main campus is New York City’s living history village, comprising more than 30 historic buildings, with a 9-gallery Historical Museum that features objects from the historic artifact collection numbering over 60,000 pieces. The Facilities Associate helps to ensure the seamless daily operations of the grounds and systems. This is a hands-on position, working as part of a small team. A majority of the daily work is conducted outdoors. This role reports to the Facilities Officer.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Facilities and Operations: 40%

    • Works with, supports and assists the Facilities Officer. These support duties include but are not limited to ensuring regular recurring visual site inspections, including the three satellite properties and curing issues as they arise.
    • Conducting regular standard and unscheduled system repairs, preventative maintenance, and maintained systems performance to ensure smooth daily operations.
    • Handling issues immediately, such as unclogging pipes, disposing of waste, cleaning roof gutters, painting, signage installation and much more.
    • Working on carpentry, mechanical, electrical, painting, plumbing, and HVAC projects.
    • Setting up and breaking down for programs and events.

    Grounds: 45%

    • Supports the Officer in their effort to ensure the grounds of all properties are well maintained for visitor and staff safety and enjoyment. This includes debris removal, fence repair, lawn mowing and weeding, and more.

    General:

    • Contributes to and maintains a positive team environment.
    • Conducts administrative duties required to promote inter-department communication and effective operation.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • This role is well suited for an individual who enjoys working outdoors in varied weather conditions.
    • Experience in lawn care, carpentry or a similar field.
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
    • Ability to walk or stand for extended periods across uneven terrain.
    • Basic familiarity with hand tools and light power tools.
    • Ability to perform manual labor including lifting, pushing, pulling, digging, and bending.
    • Comfortable working on ladders and small equipment like trimmers and carts when needed.
    • Ability to work in historic environments with uneven pathways, dirt roads, and natural landscapes.

    POSITION DETAILS:

    • Full-time, seasonal from about May to September (start and end dates are flexible)
    • $20/hourly
    • 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with mandatory participation during the Richmond County Fair over Labor Day

    Weekend, as well as occasional weekend and evening work in order to support special programs and events.
