    Job Title: Operations Manager

    Reports to: Executive Director

    Location: Hudson, MA, onsite with some remote work

    Job Type: Part-time, 30 hours per week

    Pay: $28-32/hour, depending on experience level

    About Fresh Start Furniture Bank:

    Fresh Start Furniture Bank is a volunteer-driven organization that provides gently used, free furniture and home goods to economically disadvantaged families and individuals. This year alone, we will furnish 700+ households with 35,000 items, most of which were donated by the public.

    Position Summary:

    Fresh Start is seeking an experienced leader to oversee the day-to-day operations of our distribution center. This is a hands-on position, working side-by-side with volunteers and staff. The ideal candidate must be energetic, proactive, an effective communicator, a strong manager, able to solve problems quickly, and have strong organizational and documentation skills to keep operations in order.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Distribution Center Operations:

    • Manage store opening & closing procedures.
    • Set daily shift priorities, inform the Volunteer Coordinator, and communicate these priorities consistently and effectively with volunteers.
    • Oversee daily operations and resolve any issues that arise.
    • Oversee all in-kind donations of goods from the public and other partners.
    • Monitor inventory levels to ensure minimums are always available to clients, review online inventory for quality assurance, and monitor cycle counts.
    • Evaluate inventory needs and adjust donation guidelines accordingly.
    • Develop and implement process improvements and update documentation when needed.
    • Ensure compliance with safety and operational protocols.
    • Develop and maintain a safety training program.
    • Communicate inventory needs to the social media team.
    • Maintain relationships with local donors and community organizations for furniture donations.
    • Help develop new supply and work with existing supply chain partners for bulk furniture donations.
    • Order all supplies and mattresses, receive deliveries, and code receipts for accounting.

    Call Center (a highly automated system for handling incoming calls):

    • Oversee the donations call center volunteer team.
      • Ensure donors are receiving timely and appropriate responses and that accepted items are within current donation guidelines.
    • Oversee the weekend truck schedule and volunteer crew; plan and communicate the transport routes for the donations pick-up team.

    Other Duties:

    • Manage vendor payments for mattresses, platform frames, and other supplies.
    • Collaborate with the Volunteer Coordinator on staffing levels needed for every shift
    • Participate in community events.
    • Assist with grant-related data collection or operational metrics when needed.
    • Analyze data to assist in long-term planning in collaboration with other staff members.
    • Provide progress reports to the Executive Director.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

    Qualifications:

    • 3+ years of experience in operations management, warehouse supervision, retail management, or a similar role.
    • Proven track record of managing a large, diverse group of volunteers and/or employees.
    • Ability to prioritize multiple requests in a very fast-paced environment.
    • Experience in a warehouse environment and inventory management is preferred.

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Strong problem-solving skills.
    • Strong documentation skills.
    • Strong data entry skills.
    • Well-organized, detail-oriented, and self-starting.
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Ability to manage fluid volunteer teams effectively.
    • Strong PC skills, including proficiency in Word, Excel, and Google Workspace.
    • Comfortable working with warehouse management systems.
    • Reliable internet connection for occasional remote work.
    • Ability to manage budgets effectively.
    • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
    • This role requires prolonged periods of standing and walking while performing duties such as moving furniture and assisting clients and volunteers.

    Work Location and Hours:

    • Onsite work, approximately 8:30 am to 1:30 pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, plus two Saturdays per month. Additional hours may be added based on organizational needs, with prior notice.
    • Additional remote hours as needed.
    • Paid hourly.
    • Must have a valid Driver's License.
    • Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of Hudson, MA.
