    We are actively recruiting for a Program Assistant for Training & Advocacy for the Episcopal Diocese of Connecticut, known as the Episcopal Church in Connecticut (ECCT). ECCT provides oversight and administrative support for approximately 145 Episcopal parishes on behalf of the approximately 50,000 Episcopalians living in the state.

    Job Type: Full time (37.5 hours/week), non-exempt

    Overview of the Position:

    Reporting directly to the Canon for Advocacy, Racial Justice, & Reconciliation (ARJR) and the Director for Training & Clergy Support, this position is responsible for providing administrative and technical support for the Safe Church Training Program and Racial Justice Training Programs. This position is also responsible for providing high-level administrative assistance to the Canon for ARJR including responding to phone calls and email, copying, filing, assistance in making travel arrangements, processing expense reimbursements, administrative support for committees and meetings that the Canon supports. The Program Assistant also helps with a variety of project work and administrative support for others as needed. The Program Assistant need not be a member of the Episcopal Church but should be comfortable working in a church environment and with members of the clergy.

    In addition to other duties, responsibilities, and activities as may be assigned, the principal duties and responsibilities of this position include: securing venues for training; communicating with and providing general assistance to training facilitators; creating and monitoring registration; hospitality duties; tracking contractual obligations; setting up and providing technical assistance for online and hybrid events; processing invoices; and tracking attendance. The Program Assistant troubleshoots participant challenges with ECCT’s learning management system and online communication tools. They also document participation of church leaders in training and conduct background checks for trainers. Further, the Program Assistant works with the Canon for ARJR to develop, coordinate, and track anti-racism training programs, and edits and revises documents including curriculum and meeting agendas.

    The successful candidate will be detail-oriented and adept at organization and systems management, with the ability to multi-task and efficiently manage time, prioritize projects, and meet deadlines. They must be able to organize and facilitate events and meetings. They must have excellent verbal and communications skills, including a professional phone and email manner, and be able to proofread written work thoroughly and accurately. The successful candidate must be able to maintain detailed records, communicate effectively with parish members and outside trainers, complete necessary documentation, update training databases and project status documents, and coordinate with the Communications team on event promotion and website information. They must take initiative and work independently, and learn new systems and procedures quickly. They need to remain composed under pressure and maintain confidences. The ideal candidate will be personable and outgoing, with the ability to connect with others, appreciate diversity, work with others of different backgrounds and beliefs, and be a team player.

    Qualifications:

    • At least an Associate degree is required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
    • Proficiency in the MS Office Suite and familiarity with Learning Management Systems is essential
    • At least 3 to 5 years’ experience in a supportive administrator role preferred
    • Experience in a religious setting or non-profit institution a plus
    • Bilingual in Spanish and English a plus
    • U.S. work authorization required
