    Descrição

    Health Volunteers Overseas

    Director of Development and Partnerships

    (Hybrid)

Health Volunteers Overseas (HVO), a global health nonprofit located in downtown DC, is seeking an experienced full-time Director of Development and Partnerships (DDP). The DDP will provide both strategic leadership and hands-on implementation of HVO’s comprehensive fundraising program, which includes individual giving, major gifts, foundations, and corporate support. In addition, the DDP will identify, cultivate, and steward partnerships and alliances that will promote growth and awareness of HVO’s mission and programming.

    About HVO:

HVO is dedicated to improving the availability and quality of health care in resource-scarce countries through the training and education of local health professionals. Highly skilled health professionals serve as volunteers providing both on-the-ground and virtual training at more than 100 project sites around the globe. HVO’s vision is a world where all people can access high-quality health care provided by local health professionals. To learn more about HVO, visit http://www.hvousa.org.

HVO currently relies primarily on individual donors, with some funding from foundations and professional health association sponsorships. HVO recently completed a third-party fundraising capacity assessment and has been working with a development consultant to refine strategies, systems, and tactics. With these investments, HVO is now well-prepared to move forward in expanding its philanthropic outreach.

    The Position:

Reporting to the Executive Director, and working closely with the Board, the DDP will oversee all development efforts, including major gifts, individual and corporate donor cultivation, institutional giving and partnerships, grants, planned giving, and special campaigns. The DDP will play a key role in customizing and expanding all sources of revenue for HVO. This includes identifying potential funders and securing new commitments.

This role calls for a dynamic professional who can think strategically and advise executive leadership while also rolling up their sleeves to execute – someone who thrives on both shaping the big picture and diving into the details to get the work done. The position blends frontline fundraising with strategy, analysis, and donor stewardship. If you are a strategic thinker and skilled communicator who excels in donor engagement and loves connecting with people, we would love to hear from you.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Fundraising Strategy and Leadership

    • Work closely with the Executive Director, Board, and partners to align priorities and advance HVO’s strategic goals.
    • Refine, oversee, and execute HVO’s comprehensive multi-year fundraising strategy with the goal of expanding and diversifying HVO’s philanthropic revenue.
    • Work closely with the Executive Director to develop fundraising strategies and goals; track performance and report regularly to the Executive Director and Board; meet quarterly and annual fundraising targets.
    • Lead and manage all aspects of donor cultivation, donor segmentation, stewardship, solicitation, and recognition across donor levels.
    • Develop and execute strategies to cultivate new opportunities and resources.

    Donor Engagement and Relationship Management:

    • Develop and integrate strategic alliances and partnerships that align with HVO’s mission, strategic framework, and philanthropic goals.
    • Identify and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders including major donors/prospects, corporate and foundation donors, professional health associations, and other mission-aligned organizations. With a relationship-based approach, oversee and grow the donor portfolio.
    • Steward donors and manage donor relations. Oversee the preparation and execution of donor, major gift, and corporate/organizational appeals, donor acknowledgements, and donor engagement products.
    • Oversee prospect research and the development of donor profiles.
    • Collaborate with the Board in philanthropic activities. Provide clear reporting, strategy updates, and engagement opportunities that empower Board members to engage their networks and support fundraising success.
    • Provide support to the Executive Director to interact with donors and funders regularly, helping her advance relationships toward successful commitments. Prepare for donor meetings, create briefing documents, develop personalized appeals.
    • Represent HVO at conferences or meetings with strategic partners or alliances.

    Communications and Storytelling

    • Advance HVO’s mission through donor engagement and effective storytelling. Help HVO develop and convey persuasive messaging about its mission and accomplishments to increase fundraising success.
    • Collaborate with the Communications Manager to develop and execute effective donor-centered communications, content, and marketing materials across all print and digital platforms.
    • Collaborate with communications and operations staff to ensure regular and consistent donor communications.
    • Ensure consistent messaging and branding in all fundraising materials and donor communications.
    • Develop messaging for urgent need or rapid response campaigns that connect donors to immediate impact.
    • Develop compelling funding proposals.

    Operational Leadership and Team Management

    • Serve as a member of HVO’s senior leadership team.
    • Collaborate across departments to ensure fundraising strategies align with programmatic goals and organizational priorities. Provide guidance, training, and support to HVO staff members involved in various aspects of fundraising.
    • Work closely with the Executive Director to refine and document all fundraising procedures, including donor pipelines, gift processing, prospect research, reporting, moves management, gift acknowledgement, and donor communications.

    • In collaboration with operations team, ensure proper donation processing and reporting, compliant with tax rules and other reporting obligations. In coordination with operations and finance staff, track all contributed revenue from all sources.
    • Monitor and analyze fundraising data to evaluate performance, track giving trends and relationships, and inform strategy.
